Re: I am so pissed off I am about to scream!!!!!
yet another way for parents to not take responsibility :\
Re: I am so pissed off I am about to scream!!!!!
I don't get it. Why should different rules apply to artists who create in one format from what apply to artists who create in another medium?

Because then the governemt can tell you how wrong it is to play video games (and link them all in one category), and not allow advertising for the games.
I can see it now...
I walk into 7-11 and then have to go to the counter and ask for (enter gaming magazine here), a pack of smokes, and (enter pr0n magazine name here)
It is rediculous.. and insulting...
Re: I am so pissed off I am about to scream!!!!!
But if a game has inappropriate content, how is that different from a DVD that has inappropriate content? Unless the magazines are showing adult screencaps or publishing explicit textual excerpts, I don't see them being moved behind the counter, and if they are showing that stuff, why should the rules be any different?
Re: I am so pissed off I am about to scream!!!!!
this has nothing to do with art, or video games, or censorship, or government control. some parents complained about it and some government fools wants it to look like they're doing something about it. which they aren't.
that's the key to understanding the gummint: it's all about show.
Re: I am so pissed off I am about to scream!!!!!
makes me wonder why they never banned Rampage.. hey..they were the first terrorists in video games taking down buildings and all.
but yea, even over the whole hot coffee deal that wasnt the first time sex was in a video game... anybody remember Phantasmgoria for the PC? or the sega cd games? shit even the original NES 8 bit & Atari had sex games...nobody ever banned those...
but thinking back on it now..every sex video game was a white girl...ever since the hot coffee mod came out with african persons the government blew up on it.
maybe its really a race issue looking for a scapegoat?
Re: I am so pissed off I am about to scream!!!!!
Ok.. I have calmed down now, and i am thinking a little bit clearer.
I do agree that "IF" the game has inappropriate Adult content in it, then YES, it should be marked that way.. And I have been wanting to see more adult-style games...
But, since when is Violence considered Porn?

No, because one of the very first video game sex scandles was that Custer game for Atari that had him having sex with tied up indian women.

Violence is more gray area than sex. So, there is an argument that it shouldn't be regulated any less. Some people feel brutality is not actually a better influence on the children than sexuality.
The third definition of 'Pornography', according to the American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, is as follows:
3. Lurid or sensational material:
According to the same book, the definition of Lurid is as follows:
1. Causing shock or horror; gruesome
So, there you go. :rryumy:

Re: I am so pissed off I am about to scream!!!!!
the reasoning behind this is because there are parents out there that believe these games make kids go on rampages. thats the sole reason for stricter control. its bullshit really, reminds me of that soccer mum out of donnie darko
