Do you check all the food you purchase for an expiration date? I do 99.9% of the time. After working in retail I know the older product is in front and the fresher tucked in the back.

not really. if it comes in a package, you can bet it's loaded with preservatives and will still be eatable within two weeks of the date or in the event of a nuclear explosion.
No, unless I see mold I assume it's good.
ewwwww... if its only a couple days past and still smells good ill eat it... but jamie has this habit of leaving things out of the fridge, like sour cream, and mayo n shit like that... MILK once in awhile... ew...
depends. cheese i'll give a week or two. yogurt gets tossed two days later. smae goes for meat of any kind, chicken, turkey, fish, all has a two day leeway from the date but after that it's outta there. soy milk you usually have a week or two, like cheese, but cow milk is given only two days before i get rid of it. that kind of hting.

I only check to see why it smells so bad
i dont check before I buy, but after Ive opened it I check it before I eat it again...Im really anal, any milk product goes out 3 days before the expiration, same with seafood,
I always automatically freeze my meats, so its all good. and I toss my leftovers.
I have 3 kids in the house.. it is almost impossible to have go bad... unles it is brussel sprouts...
I always check if it's meat or milk besides that not really.
I always check things for expiration dates, because sometimes stuff in the store is WAY past, and that's a waste of my time and money to purchase it.
yeah ive seen stores that have put new stickers over old expired stuff... SICK!! saw that on dateline or something... ew.
every single fucking time. i use the f-word there for emphasis; i once bought a packet of four cheese-and-bacon-topped buns from the "priced to move quickly" shelf at Safeway's. this resulted in six weeks of horrific painful stomach cramps, the shits, and general digestive problems for the following year.
i pour out milk 1 day before it expires ,cuzz i know its gonna smell funky and taste' like crap.
i buy meat with a good exp date and frezze it as soon as i can .unless it steak's then its cooked that day..
if it in the fidg more than 2 days i mite use it in a casserole if i can ..
if its longer than 3 days and still smells like its not gone south i will fead it too the cat's in the hood .other than that past 3 days ,it gonna start growin a beard and want me to take it for long walks and some tolliet love ... :eeek:
In the store, it depends... if I know I'm not going to be home much I'll search out the milk with the longest expiry, but if it's going to be eaten quick, I'll take the older stuff so someone else can do the same as me.
Every few months I mine the freezer, rope round one ankle and CSI in the driveway. Either I find something edible I forgot about, or I prove life can form without sunlight given the right mixture of monosodium glutamate, frozen pasta and raspberry sauce.
Oh, and I know how Sheramil feels - been there a few times (seafood, pizza, chinese ribs) and none of those is allowed to even look BORED in my presence, never mind old. Once all the other food groups have tried to kill me, they'll be on my hit list too.

I never really check the expiration date on foods, but I do on milk all the time.
never even thought about checking. wow . . . . i think i should start after reading some of this -.-
yeah some things can get pretty gross pretty fast... hehe... stuff like yogurt and milk and stuff i do all the time... but most things we eat right away anyways, and its usually either junk food or stuff thats frozen, then baked... we havent died yet :D
milk in my house geez my mom has to buy like 4 gallons a week cause my brother & father eat & drink everything in sight.
guess thats why i never checked. food doesnt stay in my house for very long, it ends up in their stomache.
thats the good way to buy and eat food :D haha sounds like nothing goes bad in your place... rarely does at my parents place too, cause my dad will just shove whatever leftovers there is on a plate with some toast and eat it slathered in ketchup for dinner.
kinda gross actually.
sounds like my dad. he pretty much eats slop. we used to have pigs, i wondered if he tried to eat with them from time to time.
dear god, i sound like i live on a farm.
hahaa do you live on a farm? farms are awesome.
i think every farm should have a mouse catching orange fluffy cat.
nay, but we have had
pigs, chickens & dogs. oh we had some sheep once & rabbits too
the rabbits got sick though so we had to kill them to put them out of their misery.
same for some of the chickens
i named a chicken blacky. cause it was black. very original, i know.
heh ... chickens attacked my mom once when she was a kid.
