Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
OMFG, they took a lot of blood at the doctor today and, wow, did it suck. They had to stick me a bunch of times because, according to the nurse in charge of drawing blood for both regular and research patients, strong-willed people can sometimes stop the flow of blood just by being stressed about it. Apparently, I am both strong-willed and stressed about bloodwork, and this means I feel pretty ill now. Using the keyboard with holes in both arms is kinda unpleasant, so I think I'm going to go watch the preview of the pilot for the new Aaron Sorkin (creator of The West Wing) show.

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
my veins roll, its never pleasant, once they were using a butterfly needle for 4-5 vials and it took six dr's, and 8 needles before they got it in a vein and then they forgot to stop the end and blood sprayed everywhere! they charged me for all 8 needles and the blanket. It was stupid, cause I kept telling them to just take it out of my hand, but they wouldnt effing listen.

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
What's wrong with you goofy chicks? I give blood regularly, since I feel it's one of the only ways a broke-ass fool like me can still be charitable, and the only time I've had trouble bleeding, is when I get some rookie who can't find a vein. Matter o' fact, one time I actually had to grab this dumbass dude's hand and show him where to press.
The moral of this story is that it's easy to bleed, and the Red Cross hires dumbshits.

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
To be honest, you could put a nail through my hand. I'm walking wiht what appears to be a broken rib, but taking blood kinda freaks me out.

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
ugh forest... not cool...
hah yeah tho... being poked by needles sucks either way.
id love to give blood... i just kinda never got around to it haha...
they had a dumbass nurse working at the place i had my wisdom teeth removed too... poked me abuncha times in my elbow, then had to do it in my hand anyways.
but ive got really skinnyass veins... so that was half the excuse too...

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
i love it. LOVE it. i actually had two different IDs i'd use to go back to the blood bank and donate, because they'd only let me in there once every six weeks otherwise. had a squeamish friend come in with me once and she fainted. :)
i don't do it any more because i'm pissed off they think i'm riddled with AIDS because i went down on a guy once. i've been tested and come up negative at least four times since then, but oh no. if you've ever smoked meat, they don't want to know.
i take great pleasure in relating the above paragraph to blood bank reps when they press me for a donation.
incidentally, in australia they don't pay for blood donations.

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
Heh... well for years I collected a
'punk rock paycheck'.. selling
plasma, twice a week for many
moons. Much bigger gauge than
just a draw, considering the blood
has to come out, spin the plasma
out and give back the rest of it.
Although it is kind of funny, I've
had times where they haven't been
able to do a draw from my arms and
have been stuck in the neck....
nothing like watching some med
school flunkie coming at your jugular.
Needles don't bother me, catheters do.

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
I still feel like death in a blender today. I think I'll pass on the catheter too. My body is just really hostile to intrusions.

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
Iron is good for building blood cells so have a iron bar :D

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
I was used to hospitals at a very small age and giving blood has never bothered me. There is only one exception, when I feel like shit and have to give it. When you feel like shit, you just feel it more. I don't have a fear of needles, never have. I have to do it every three months for routine tests. I have grown used to it and quite enjoy watching. It's a very beautiful rich color.

Hey, Trevor Brown, who did the artwork for the Blue Blood horned women T-shirts is most famous for his Baby Art series of bruised girls. He lives in Japan now and there is probably a causational relationship between those two pieces of info.

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
Urgh, sorry to hear you're feeling a bit icky after that. A lot of people do. I remember when I was studying biology in high school, our class went to give blood as an 'educational field trip'. Three guys wanted to be the people in the class who drank the most water before giving blood.
We had to stop the bus two K's out of town so they could take a piss behind a bus shed. :1orglaugh
And one of those guys thought he'd be the toughest out of the whole group. "As if you'd pass out, it's only a needle" and guess who it was that passed out first...
Anyway, I don't mind needles and stuff. I'm an anaesthetist's dream, Mum tells me, cos my skin is so pale my veins stand out a mile away and they get the needle in first time every time. I've had lots of drips (I.V's), and at the dentist I've had loads of needles in my gums, so needles really don't bother me much.
Which reminds me, I'm due to give blood again soon...
Anyway, hope you feel better soon. :)

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
haha yeah that'd to it. Guys often get quite squeamish when it comes to childbirth. My boyfriend jokingly says, "What's the big deal? You just oush it out and there you have it!" But I bet he wouldn't stick around if I was giving birth lol.
Far as I know, Dad near passed out when each of the kids in my family were born. Not to mention with the maternity ward being so warm and stuff, he felt extra queezy on top of that so they made him change into a hospital gown to deal with the stuffiness. But I think he left the room hehe.

Re: Vampire Doctor & My Telekinetic Powers
