Plan B- Album "Who Needs Actions when You've Got Words"

Hip Hop in America has turned stale. Every album provides the winning formula, club bangers, beef, and machismo posturing that leaves the roots of this genre far behind. Enter Plan B from the UK and his debut album "Who Needs Actions when You've Got Words".

Most reviewers give at best a cursory glance at what is a musically rich and refreshing album, it is the tool of the lazy, jaded reviewer to automatically compare Plan B with Eminem based on, yes they are both white. A penchant for raw lyrics and an I-Don't-Give-A-Fuck-Attitude the similarities end. Plan B has put out a gritty and emotional album. Most of these tracks feature his guitar playing as well as emotionally charged vocals and subject matter that is hardly fodder for the pop charts.

Where US rappers concentrate on who has the biggest balls and the hottest girls, this album reflects a young man who's lived a painful life. Lost close friends and isn't afraid to admit he's made some mistakes. Stand out tracks include, "Couldn't Get Along Today", "Everyday" (excellent track with a gorgeous piano intro), and "Dead and Buried".

Attention US rappers it's time to step up your game and grow up. To quote the venerable Ice Cube-

ive been a fan of stuff like The STreets, Roots Manuva, and Dizzee Rascal for a while now, its good shit and a bit refreshing to listen to something thats a little diferent than the stuff that gets played on the mainstream radio

well to be fair that's only mainstream american hip hop. there are plenty of people rapping about all the same stuff as that guy over here.

well, for another different Hip Hop feel, the Hilltop Hoods (an aussie hip hop band) have an album - The Hard Road.. which isnt to bad. im not overly big on rap and such, but this seems alright..

they are actually redoing the album currently with a string orchestra..
