As many children's do my aspirations changed numerous times over the years........
I wanted to be.....
a ballerina
an elementary school teacher
a writer
a photographer
the owner of a clothing shop
I am/ have been.....
a photoshop artiste' (current)
a set designer
a make-up artist
a sandwich artist (Quiznos AND Subway yo yo!)
a stripper
a pornographer
homeless
a receptionist
I Still plan on being......
a photographer
an artiste' for life :-)

Re: What you wanted to be when you grew up versus what you actually are......
as a child I wanted to be the antichrist
as an adult I'm just a cynic
-
Re: What you wanted to be when you grew up versus what you actually are......
I wanted to to be an astronaut
I still dream of the stars, and have my head in the clouds.
-
Re: What you wanted to be when you grew up versus what you actually are......
When I grew up?? My attempts at "growing up" have been futile. I can pretty much succeed at anything I try, but I would prefer just to grow old rather than up. I believe in responsibility, but you have to change course when you lose a passion for what you're doing.
A Veterinarian for the record.
What did I do? Everything I set out to (and I bit I didn't)
What next? Stay tuned.

Re: What you wanted to be when you grew up versus what you actually are......
i wanted to be a badass... and i am... and then i realized that violence sucks. what a fucking waste of my time. if i'd devoted as much time to fucking as i did to fighting, i'd probably be alot happier...
...then again, i've got the death touch thing, and that's pretty cool... so, you know...
...i also wanted to be an artist... went to art school, wanted to kill everyone in sight.
a sword smith... making swords is tre cool... but expensive, and pointless if you're trying to make a living.
a mad scientist-still working on that one... i've got me so many plans... and get a suprising number of them done... mostly i like working with the mind right now, lucid dreaming is the current project.
let's see what have i done with myself?
the badass thing-pointless, but somehow gratifying. i wouldn't have been happy if i hadn't wasted all that time to figure out what a waste of time it was.
infinite shit jobs-no fun.
school (college)l-8 years, no end in sight.
writer-still writin'
veggie chef-ya'll are insane, i'm not making anymo' food for ya'll.
roadie-i will kill rockstars dead.
insane person- i don't recommend it, at least get paid foryour efforts.
art-only for me... mine. not for your.
currently el slacko best shit job ever-part time hours full time pay--- awaiting inspiration from the mothership, and tryin' to get rich...
reader- i've read a ton of really cool books. yay reading...
meh.
although i've wasted alot of time, i've gotten alot done that only has subjective value, i really enjoy dreams, and dreaming... i want to be a better dreamer.
i suppose i would like to contribute a bit to the advance of the human condition... and i have a few ideas about how to do that... but being a misanthrope, i'm just as likely to strangle folks as help them out...
now i ramble

Re: What you wanted to be when you grew up versus what you actually are......
I thought about being a vet which sort of came true since I have a lot of pets & have learned to keep after most of their needs on my own since real vets aren't cheap.
I also considered law, as a judge which again I have gotten my satisfaction in life having the last laugh more than once & having full opportunity to judge certain people. However, nothing official like Judge Judy or anything.
I thought about forensic anthropology but when I realized it would have been a lot of teaching & ran from it. Academia people are insane!
So now I am....
A BDSM professional, fashion designer, model, business lady and receptionist.
Not what my folks would have hoped for I take care of myself & I am happy which is more than most people can say for their lives.

I was going to do that, but I have too much stuff that's hard to move. and well things like lugging around a library just doesn't lend well to that lifestyle.
maybe in places like europe where they have communites of dozens of people living and working together for years... but facing the constant threat of condemend building hazards/ no utilities, drug users, high school kids getting drunk, landlord eviction, bull dozers, cops busting in... eh.

You could get around most of those in the Bay Area until fairly recently. There is a squat called "The Chateau" in Berkeley that has been around since the days of Crimpshrine and Op. Ivy. I don't recommend it, but it is definitely a full-time profession. Real problems are stuff like drugs, dead roommates, and drug raids. I'll pay the coin to avoid that. Plus just dealing with all the people. bleh.

Damn that sux. I was at the Ellsworth House for a bit. Mostly was in Sonoma County at the time. There were a few houses which were informal collectives there. It's all gone now. I'll save the SF rooftops story for another time.

Re: What you wanted to be when you grew up versus what you actually are......
as a child i wanted to be: a journalist, an author,a teacher, a nun (which really shocks most people) and a mother/housewife (probably wanting to be like my nana)
at the moment i am simply a literature student. i don't know what path to choose afterwards. On an everyday basis i act like the housewife i aspired to be though, i cook every meal for me and my boyfriend and generally potter around the house doing housey-cleany things. Perhaps after i finish my 3 year degree i will start another one learning to teach!

Re: What you wanted to be when you grew up versus what you actually are......
The notion that we'd have personal computers and therefore a market to develop for software systems was speculative science fiction when I was a kid.
Computers existed, but they were few and far between and it was thought to be a career only for mathematicians, and only a few.
I wanted to be an actor.

I think owning a bookstore would be bliss. Maybe have a little coffee shop. Just a relaxing place for people to browse and read. I love being able to find stuff online, but sometimes u miss that hunt for the elusive tome in some musky old bookstore. U wouldn't make much cash I'd imagine, but you'd have something really awesome if u did it right.:thumb:

Being a bookseller is damn hard. The big box places and Amazon have stuck a giant cock right up the ass of the little indy bookshop.
There is a way to make money at it, but it involves getting women to trade in romance novels.

I figured as much. I'd probably try something whacked like have a bookstore/venue/coffeeshop/whatever else to keep it all afloat. It's not on my current agenda, but I think it'd be fun if u could somehow stay in business.

Re: What you wanted to be when you grew up versus what you actually are......
Simple.
Get romance paperback novels (Mills and Boon, Harlequin type) and sell em used for 50% off, 20% off that price with trade in, trades must be newer than two months old.
Once the book is older than that, toss em out at 5 for a buck, don't accept em back.
