What do you miss about 'back in the day'?
What do you miss about 'back in the day'?
Back in what day you ask? ANY DAY!! Back in any day that you miss something about!
I miss not working and having 2 hours to get ready before clubbing so that I always looked fantabulous.
I miss my hair (but I like my dreads).
I miss believing in the 'love of my life'.
I miss being enchanted by gothic boys who I thought were so mysterious and dark and magical.
I miss having good skin.
I miss being able to eat whatever I wanted.
I miss having no responsibilities (but it's easier to be in charge of my own life WITH responsibilities)
I miss getting an allowance.
I miss candy. Candy sucks. It used to be so so so good!

I miss being 22

I miss the folks that are no longer here with me.
I miss just not giving a fuck about the past or future.
At the same time: I miss no longer being able to convince some people that the day is today.:thumb:

I miss not having to pay rent and bills, and the fact life seemed so much easier then.

wow the only time I didn't have rent and bills was before I moved out of home and I definitely don't yearn to return to that circumstance of independencelessness.
I miss when there were stacks of venues for live music in this town.

Re: What do you miss about 'back in the day'?
I miss going camping with the Scouts and NOT sneezing every 2 minutes from Hayfever!
I miss being able to go to "Car Boot Sales" and root around the Toy Boxes for Action Man/GI Joes without being looked at like I'm a weirdo! (For those of you that don't know, a Car Boot Sale is like a Mass Yard Sale, but anyone can sell anything, old or new, and it's usually held in a field or sports training ground. I once found 3 Were-Bears at 3 different stalls on the same day after spending years trying to find just one!)

I also miss being able to call the four foot end of the local pool "THE ABYSS" ...now it's the five foot end ;_; (Yes, I'm short we're gonna get over it XD)

I miss the 80s cartoons. Waking up saturday and watching my brain implode from Transformers, GI Joe, HeMan, Centurions, Birdman, Space Ghost, Thundercats, Silver Hawks and assorted others.

Re: What do you miss about 'back in the day'?
I think that what I miss most is having a lot of people to hang out with at a moment's notice. There is a certain strange clarity to growing apart--big cities and education create a weird need for a diaspora. People leave, they're constantly leaving, seeking jobs in otherwheres that I don't want to trod. So, in order to keep my old social circles intact, I trot between several cities just to find that company. :wings:

I miss a few tangible things a lot, I miss a few that have passed on, Still I agree with Voltaire, I enjoy my life a lot more now that I am an adult. I feel a lot more in charge of what I am doing, where I am going & who have become & I really like it.

Re: What do you miss about 'back in the day'?
I miss real, old punk rock bands where you could be in the pit and they would pick you up if you got knocked down! Even in DC!

Re: What do you miss about 'back in the day'?
Another thing on "Back in the day": It is really annoying me the level of nostalgia some of my compatriots in the Bay Area subject others too. Conflicts remain from the Clinton era. A lot of it was very tragic, yet some would paint it as the golden years. Why do people do this? I get so turned-off, I can't even tell the stories that may have been worth something to someone ... somewhere ... somehow.

Re: What do you miss about 'back in the day'?
The really dangerous thing about nostalgia (I've found), is that it tends to present past adventures as "flawless victory", and so deters people from going back out and trying for new ones in the present. If you gussy up your past to the point that nothing can hope to compare to it, you place unrealistic expectations on present endeavor.
...which is really sad, because ultimately the whole point of life seems to me to be active and to continually strive to exceed oneself.

True. And that is definitely happening. What's worse is they gloss over what actually happened. A lot was written about last summer. I almost responded then realized how ridiculous it would be. I would, in essence, fuel the fire of what seems an ongoing debate about "the day". There are things to be said, but to keep it alive? ugh.
Jackie T (With my usual caveat of not exempting myself. I simply catch it and let it flow the fuck away. Harder when you keep seeing it in print.)

1. I miss all the semi-decent venues in DC that have gone the way of the dinosaur:
A. The Roxy
B. Tracks
and now....Nation. *sigh*

Re: What do you miss about 'back in the day'?
I miss waking up on saturday morning like at %AM to get a big ass bowl of lucky charms, and watch some cartoons. nowadays on a saturday morning if imm not working i sleep in till maybe 1 pm and if iI did wake up all the cartoons nowadays suck .
However a few things still stayed the same. I still prety much spend most of my time reading comics and playing videogames. I have a crazy sweet tooth and buy candy instead of beer or cigaretes at the store. Plus im the oldest guy that still runs after the ice cream guy on a hot summer afternoon.

Ah, Saturday morning cartoons!!!! Had been racking my brains to come up with something that I missed enough to post about here, and have to thank you for mentioning those.
Sure, there was a lot of junk on when I was watching all throughout the late '60's through very recently, but, one could conceivably view, at their height, cartoons and the like from 7:00 AM 'til 1 in the afternoon on ABC, CBS and NBC, and, on Sundays in the late '60's through 1978, when CBS's Sunday Morning debuted, one could see, from 10:00 AM 'til 12 Noon, cartoons and other kids' shows from the previous season of Saturday morning cartoons on CBS and ABC.
Mind you, I speak from my memories of being a kid in Reno, Nevada during those years, and, while cable was available in Reno at that time, we didn't have it, except for a rather brief stint back in 1982.
But, I drivel on and on, so will shut up here.
Again, thanks for posting that memory.

Re: What do you miss about 'back in the day'?
I miss my imagination.
I miss my energy.
I miss my bike.
I miss "new" things. (as opposed to "been there, done that".)
I miss all of the above that combined together to form what I can only call a sense of Adventure that didn't keep me bored indoors all day.
I miss being naive. but only a little bit. I'm a better person now than I ever was.
I also miss by best freind more than anything and I think that person could help me to find those things again.

I miss the ColorBox club. I miss irresponsibility. Mostly I miss being unaware of consequences.
