Red - Danger Will Robinson!
Green - Radiation At Deadly Level!
Black - This has a deep philisophical meaning that can only be realized after getting very drunk.
The rest of the colors are just there to mess with your head.

Actually, the stars with more black detail in the middle are shown on threads that you have posts in. Green should mean that there are new posts in a thread that you may not have read so far this session, and red means that it is a very active thread... or something like that anyway.
