Cocaine for cats? Vocabulary word of the day?
Eucaine is now, due to Scrabble, my word of the day. I did not play the word. Apparently eucaine is a kitty cocaine and I would have known this already if I were a veterinarian. I am not a veterinarian.
Eucaine is now my word of the day. What is your word of the day?
Re: Cocaine for cats? Vocabulary word of the day?
It should have been more points.

I don't think Scrabble has a points multiplier for appalling factor.

Eschatology. Also the title for My 4th album (self released of course lol)
Meaning: The last 4 things before the end of times (Death, Judgement, Heaven, Hell) . Also in reference to the 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse.
Re: Cocaine for cats? Vocabulary word of the day?
maybe that's what my cats keep screaming for
Re: Cocaine for cats? Vocabulary word of the day?
Ah yes...
Death.
Famine.
War.
Petulance.

Or is that flatulence, Mr. Forrest???:1orglaugh :1orglaugh
"And lo, came down the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, mounted upon their steeds, and the people of the land were sore afraid of them, because Flatulence had just done a wet one in his trousers, and its reeking stench covered over all the land, both far and near.":D
However, I also like the idea of Petulance being one of the Four, as he'd pout and sulk his way to the end of the world:1orglaugh .

It's actually a GWB quote, which make it even more funny.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh What a riot, indeed, and suits its creator to a T.
BTW, Ms. Amelia, any idea as to what eucaine might be used for, because, for the life of me, cats, being the reactive little slobs they are, strike me as needing cocaine, as much as Tom Tancredo needs a Mexican housekeeper, or not at all.
Cocaine for cats!!!! What a dodgy proposition, I think.

Eucaine (alpha- and beta-) is used as a local anesthetic for general veterinary practice, not just on cats, but it's not enormously popular. It's been around for about a century and is diluted into liquid form for use (as it's extremely difficult to make a cat snort through a rolled up fiddy, at least the first time).
It used to appear widely in human medicine as a topical anesthetic for the eyes, in dentistry and as a treatment for hemorrhoids (you stuck cream up your ass, or snorted the powder and stopped caring about them). It stopped around the 1950s as it's not as effective as the modern synthetics and is slightly more toxic than you'd like - but it's not addictive so you don't see cats hammering on doorways in the projects asking if Benny's got any good shit.
My Scrabble word is "tmesis" - the only word in English that starts with tm and meaning a word with another word inserted inside it.. absofuckinglutely useless.
Re: Cocaine for cats? Vocabulary word of the day?
damn, i was gonna use tmesis. oh well. my word for the day then shall be octopenii, the archnemesis of octopussy (after bond-james-bond of course). you cant use names in scrabble but no rules saying you cant have it as youre wftd! :D

Thanks, MG, for the info. Did a quick and extremely limited Google search on eucaine, and pretty much got the very basics on it from a few sites, though nothing on its use in veterinary medicine.
Makes sense, though, that it would be used as a local anaesthetic, as it would appear to have roughly the same numbing properties as cocaine and its other cousins in the coca-alkaloid family.
As for cats lookin' up anyone in the projects, or, Hell, in the suburbs, where Johnny and Janey Bourgeois likes they toot-toot, too, I figure they'd probably scratch and yowl rather than knock on someone's door. Why??? 'Cos that's what cats do.
