Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas
How much do you plan on spending on Xmas this year?
How many people do you generally buy for? Just family? Friends if they've been nice?
I'm probably going to be in the small $1,000 range, but mostly they will be 1 big expensive gift a piece and some smaller ones.
You?

well....i just bought my niece a cute pink jewel encrusted hair thingy and im thinkin of gettin a couple of pairs of those form fittin cloggies for my mom and maybe uncle and gramma that im always wearin. probly spend two to three hundred bucks on four or five people.i dont do multipl gifs-we pretty much get one or two small gifts out here and my uncle gives regifts so.....yeah.the holidays suck for poor people lol
Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas
if I don't see anything that suits a particular person, then they get nothing that year
Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas
Nothing. Because I'm broke :P
Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas
I never bouth a christmass present actualy. Part of the culture and beliefs in place and time I was raised I guess. I think I should actualy buy some just out of respect for religious people I care for.
Any advice on what's a good christmass gift? Expensive or out of heart? Simbolic or usefull?
Is it ok to give money instead? I allways prefered giving money instead of buying something and then thinking if I bought the right thing. This way they will use it for what they need.

Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas
beh, im horrible at picking gifts, and apparently impossible to buy for as well. i hate christmas. i still need to get something for, hmm, EVERYONE and theres only like 42 days left (i work in a mall, so the numbers are being shoved down my throat and any other orifice available on an irritatingly large scale). and im sposed to be starting to save up for a trip to germania for oktoberfest...
Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas
i dunno what it is about this time of the year but there seems to be something in the air that just gets kids to go fullblown meltdown temper tantrum at the mall.
three seperate incidences i witnessed first hand-ugh.so glad guys don't have kids lol
Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas
HELL YES MALCOLM!!! i am never taking my kid to the mall until he is old enough to not FLIP THE HELL OUT when i tell him "no we can get the remote controlled race car next time"
same goes for grocery shopping. the cereal isle gives moms nightmares haha!!

Had those as a kid.
Don't eat cereal very often anymore, so I don't know if they're still available, but they were up to a very few years ago.
Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas

Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas

Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas
im pretty sure its somewhere in the 2 grand range. mostly for my daughter and my fiancee tho
Re: Shopocalypse : How much are you spending on Xmas
I prefer to give gifts spontaneously. If I see or have something a loved one will like, I'll send it their way. I try to rid myself of anything I don't have an actual utility for. I told friends and family years ago never to buy me stuff. I do love the holiday season. I get to see friends and family. I enjoy Divine Liturgy occasionally on Orthodox Xmas.
Xmas is such a spectacle. Organized Christianity, in many ways, has simply been a source of social control. I can't help but be a bit amused by the rampant commercialism. This is our soma perhaps? It is good to give. I'd rather just be generous when it has greater meaning to me. Thus, I doubt I will spend much beyond buying a few rounds for the (Un)orthodox.
I respect the believer and the unbeliever. I just cannot take the spectacle seriously. Give everyday. Be thankful everyday. Beyond that, enjoy the time off with friends and family. That's all the holidays are really about.:thumb:
