Shoplifter caught with beer in pants
Dec 11 2007 by Our Correspondent, Daily Post
A SHOPLIFTING junkie with 71 previous convictions was spared jail after magistrates decided he needed another chance to sort his life out.
David Edward Benbow, 30, was caught with a can of lager down his trousers after visits to a Bargain Booze store, Flintshire magistrates were told.
Benbow admitted stealing from Bargain Booze in Shotton and three other similar offences.
Magistrates said there was a glimmer of hope that he might turn his life around and gave him a three-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
He was ordered to attend an alcohol treatment course and a drug rehabilitation course, and pay £16 compensation and £60 costs.
He should make the most of it and grab the chance with both hands to try and sort himself out, Benbow was told.
Prosecutor David Boycott told how staff saw him walk out with one can in his hand which they recovered, but he got away with the can that was stuffed down his trousers.
He asked for three other similar offences to be considered including one at The Co-op in Hawarden when he put a can of beer down his trousers.
Benbow was arrested and bailed, failing to turn up in court, and, while on bail, stole again – on this occasion, three jars of coffee and a sandwich from the Londis store in Buckley.
Alec Peate, defending, said that Benbow was a man desperate for help.
He had a longstanding heroin problem, and had been an alcoholic for about 10 years.
It was a very positive step forward and he had already made inquiries himself with the drugs and alcohol service, and was hoping for rehabilitation, she said.

nope, just restrict him to dollar store :/ He can't get out with much before he gets caught. They'd lose less money in merch. hahaha.
No seriously, I doubt he can change. Even if he "found God", he'd probably have stolen Him from someone else. :P

I've heard of people that did 71 hits of acid and they don't do it anymore, so what does that say?

I can see the judge now...
What are the chances he'll do it 72 times in a row?
I mean the odds are astronomical!
