So I play drums. Have been for a while. Did the teenage punk drumming thing, then went to college, sold the drums and took a long time to get back into them.

I might as well start drinking scotch on the rocks in a pair of slippers and worrying about the state of my lawn.

Now, I'm not saying I'd like to play that kind of music - Zeppelin, early Sabbath and a lot of great rock acts had jazz-feel drummers... but I mean, I have to say I prefer these gentlemen to the people that came after.

Just like the heaviest of metal was Black Sabbath. They may have come louder or more distorted or scream WHOOOOORRRREEEEE over and over again like the Cookie Monster while facepainted like muppets, but sweet fuck Black Sabbath got it right.

So did these gentlemen. Time to comb the old folks homes and go find some old codger who used to play for the "Toot Sweeters" or some other legendary swing band back in WWII and learn traditional grip...

im a young drummer, and those old jazz drummers had the technique down solid. like, so solid that it needs italics. and while its not generally my musical cup of tea, theyre the guys i youtube to get pointers. not exclusively, i do watch others, but they hve so much to teach, especially in areas that they pioneered.
