Minimizing Shaving Irritation
I want to know your secret.
I've noticed that exfoliation before shaving minimizes shaving irritation, as well as using Olay body wash Creme Ribbons brand in the pink color.
I use at least a three blade razor, but prefer 4.
How about you? What do you use? ...etc. Please include as many details as possible.

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
oooh good thread. pics will help too.... just for scientific purposes.
when my Bic razors get too dull / old to use on my face then I put them in shower and use them to keep my bits and pieces in order. i think a brand new razor can be too sharp and more likely to irritate the shorn area.
as far as soap, i like Irish Spring in the bar.

Thats funny. Need pictures. HA!

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
I avoid shaving as much as possible, except face. Armpits are next thing I shave most after face.I don't want to look as a werewolf at the age of 30 if I don't shave for a week :)

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
I shave any noticeable or unnoticeable hair below my eyebrows to my toes.

Coconut oil-post shave

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
Really? Does it work better than lotion? I'll try it.

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
Genuine shave soap, with a brush
Pre-shave oil
Heat the area first with a warm flannel
Use a straight razor with the grain
Use a straight razor across the grain
Cold water after

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
What parts of the body do you use for this method? It makes a difference to ME seeing as I dont grow any beard hairs.....lol
-
Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
Usually the face.
I grow like four hairs on my chest, so I swipe them too.
I once shaved my ballsack, dry, just to show it could be done AND that I have nerves of steel.

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
You must to do so.......lol

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
Theres stuff called Coochy Cream, its made for your nether regions and is supposed to be very gentle and won't cause bumps or irritation, but you can use it anywhere you shave. I haven't tried it yet, but plan on buying some soon.

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
I shave using a cracked chunk of obsidian and lather myself in sacrificial blood. it's the only way to go.

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
This sounds retarded, but shave using deodorant. It's an old stripper trick.
Or, do what I do. WAX, YOU PUSSIES!

No, apply it after shaving. I prefer either dove unscented solid, or almay unscented clear gel. I've been using this method for years; waxing is not an option for me, I have too much hair.... I also use a razor with five blades in it... just a regular soap and water shaver.

that's interesting. how does that work for a smoother shave?

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
it won't make it smother, but It deffinetly works against razor burn.

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
alcohol in the products tends to kill the bacteria that iritates the tiny cuts in the skin after the shaving.

Alcohol in the products harks back to a time where people shared razors.
We don't anymore, and that shit fucks up your skin.

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
I just gotta say how much I love this thread. I'm so glad I decided to post my question.
Ya know, after I considered the deodorant used as an aftershave product, it makes sense, I never have razor burn underneath my arms.
Thanks to Voltaire for sharing the brand names of the products that you like, and prefer for this very purpose.
I generally have sensitive skin, and most unscented products are generally best tolerated by my skin.
I'm just wondering if anyone's tried unscented Mitchum for this purpose?

I exfoliate my face with a loofah sponge, or an exfoliator made from rope, twisted together. After exfoliating my nose I apply rubbing alcohol with a q-tip, on the top portion to minimize my pores. Then I follow up with an alpha hydroxy lotion in the morning, so my skin isnt oily.... and in the evening, just before I go to bed, I use a moisturizer to do its thing overnight.

you can use any unscented deodorant. those were just the two i prefer. don't use that same tube of deodorant for your armpits. it's better to have a separate one for your vajayjay

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
Thanks for the tip, I'd figure that as well... because I'm not as sensitive to my underarms, AND not to mention the region. Thanks for keeping me straight, in all the ways you have... and yes, its been more than once:drunky: :Comfort_E

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
Neosporin works wonders on preventing razor burn (thank you Jenna Jameson!). I makes sense, really, since the point is to prevent infection of an open wound, such as a razor nick.
I've also head that you should wait as long as possible between shavings. I think I week is the minimum length of time, although I couldn't tell you where I read that.
-
Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
LOL.... The Neo makes sense, BUT I'm funny about ANY antibacterial OR antibiotic because it eventually leads to resistance.... I have a MOM that used to work on the infectious disease ward of the hospital.... She's now the hospital supervisor nurse wise (the top nurse position.....period)
SO even though I thoroughly appreciate your response, (as it may work very nice for you) I'm interested in trying the deodorant......
I'm sure it works for you.....BTW, does it work for you? Do you also shave the private region..... that is why I started this thread.... for ppl who keep their pubes shaved....
(besides the point.....ever since I started shaving the pubes, I never went back to fur!!!)

Dude, you say that like it's a bad thing.
Unless it's infected, the human female girlbit area is fucking awesomely scented *thumbsup*

Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
yeah, the reality is the opposite. you don't want to get your smelly arms and there bacteria near your who ha.
-
Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
Doesn't anyone clean off the surface of their deodorant post-use?
-
Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
I don't wear deodorant. I'm European.
-
Re: Minimizing Shaving Irritation
i never use an old blade on my nether bits o.O I find using a brand new blade to always be best as older ones leave irritating stuble and never get it as smooth. I replace my razor every month

I only use it in the public area, since that's really the only place I get razor burn (TMI?). Armpits, etc usually don't need it. I'm told talcum powder works well, too *shrugs*. I think it's mostly about keeping the area dry and free from irritation.
