Re: Are Strippers Insecure Whores?
I knew lots of girls in college that stripped for tuition. I know that some people looked down on them for that, but as a poor guy who put himself through college, I seriously wish people would pay me just to look at my naked body.
I don't see anything wrong with the job it's self.
Now...through my stripper friends, I did meet lots of terrible stripper whores...but, you know what? I've met just as many terrible coke whores hanging around my local 7/11. Seriously.
Re: Are Strippers Insecure Whores?
now who's making generalisations? we all make compromises, that's a fact. the question is if you are comfortable with that trade off, if you are then you're being true to yourself, if not, then you should seek an alternative, and that's the bottom line of what im trying to say.

Re: Are Strippers Insecure Whores?
Someone much wiser than me once said, "all art is either masturbation or prostitution." Many jobs require us to sell a part of ourselves to make ends meet, and many people view thier jobs differently than others. As yet no one is willing to pay my rent based on my inner beauty.
At my last job I was a whore, and not the fin kind. The job tore down my self esteem and health, ripped apart my social life with a constantly changing schedule, payed far too little, demanded far too much, and made promises it would never deliver. Every day stepping into work started with asprin and antacid. How can I possibly look at a stripper and even try to pretend I am some how supperior because of thier choice of employment?
Stripping in and of itself is entertianment. It can be artistic or cheap, just like any form of entertainment. It can be just a job, whoring yourself, or even empowering, just like any other form of entertainment. The only difference is that if I tried to call a concert pianist a whore people would think I was crazy.
Re: Are Strippers Insecure Whores?
well in all fairness I did bash on bankers, landlords and elected officials too, but no one got upset about that.

I understand the actual focus of your argument is on exploitation and "whoring" for $$$. Do you propose an alternative? Don't get me wrong, I already have a sense in my own life of where my compromises will lie. I am just curious if you envision a change in society/self which would eliminate such "whoring"?

No joke. Once had a job like that. At least strippers get to have drinks and listen to music on the job!
Re: Are Strippers Insecure Whores?
I don't think using your talents for money is being a whore. Strippers can dance, so they dance with less clothing than other dancers for a little extra money. But would other dancers, like those in Ballet companies be whores? By the same logic, all musicians who play for money are whores, and it goes on and on... I don't think that's a fair judgement.
I'm going to agree with OEC, if anyone can provide a solution to the problem of literally HAVING to make money in this society, please share.

Two reasons. One a stripper is only selling themselves, bankers (I assume you mean bank owners), landlords and elected officials sell other people. But even then, some are trying to do right with the responsibility they have.
but I have to ask, what makes one job more nobel than another? What seperates an honest job from whoring?
Re: Are Strippers Insecure Whores?
the same thing that makes an honest relationship; one that's for the mutual and equal benefit of those involved.

I wasn't joking, I dont think CAFE was either. The job I have now essentially makes me a corporate whore (hence the s.n.). Dont really have much choice. Ive got a family to support and I'm too ugly (and hairy) to be a stripper. I guess I could try, but I'd starve! Maybe I could strip for blind women. Anyways, I think most people whore themselves out, at least at some point in their lives...strippers and prostitutes are just paid better than most and since both professions are sexual in nature, they carry a "dirty" stigma that America gives to anything sexual.
