I agree 100% with what chesire and keiko said, to me a hippie is someone who claims to be revolutionary, but DOES NOT do any of these things, and instead just uses it as an excuse to justify doing nothing but sitting around and getting high.

Hallucinogens, including LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), mescaline, psilocybin, PCP (phencyclidine), and ketamine. Serious and lasting psychiatric conditions such as psychosis or hallucinogenic flashbacks can develop after using LSD.
Its obvious that self-therapy involving psychedelics would not mean being dosed up 24 hours a day. The word Psychedelic means "mind manifesting", they provide deeper insight into your psyche, the drug does not come up with the solution; you do.Quote:

I’m not a scientist but I understand that psychedelics act as neurotransmitter mimics which makes them fundamentally different to cocaine or extasy. Also would you say that the use of anti-depressants to combat depression and raise serotonin levels is illusory? I’m not sure if you know, but scientists and therapists had considerable success treating alcoholism with psychedelic substances before it was outlawed and native Americans still use Peyote to combat it.Quote:

Ginsberg wrote entire passages of Howl under LSD, then there was Baudelaire and Burroughs and Coleridge the opium addict. Sometimes there are exceptional people who decide to use drugs to try and explain a transcendental reality. You might be surprised how often this happens, since many singer-song writers have only referred to their muses under various aliases due to social intolerance. Bob Dylan, one of the greatest lyricists of the 20th century often used stimulants to compose some of his best songs. Truth be told, Dylan was a great lyricist from the start, he didn’t need drugs, but he found them useful. Would you say that Dylan was “not that creative”? Tangerine Dream started using synthesisers and tape mixes in the early seventies, the Beetles, then we have Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, not least of all the Doors and plenty of the progressive rock crowd…Quote:

It’s a correlative conjunction.
As far as religions go.
Hallucinogenic drugs are among the oldest drugs used by humankind, as hallucinogens naturally occur in mushrooms, cacti, and various other plants. There is evidence that our prehistoric ancestors used entheogens as well as the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Maya, Inca and Aztec civilizations. I’d even place my money on the fact that Christianity and Judaism have their roots in psychedelics. After all, what is the holy sacrament if not some theatre of amphetamine takers. If this wasn’t enough there is plenty of proof that animals have a long history of using psychedelics also, elephants, cows, goats, and they even use them recreationally. The drive to transcend our own small realities is natural. As I said earlier, art which describes the everyday is fine, but ontological art is far more interesting, at least for me. I would even go as far to say that these drugs may have played a significant roll in the development of human consciousness.
True, If you need them to be creative then you are not all that creative, the spark needs to be there before the fire.Quote:

Sure as hell dosen't help. People are fucked up enough, they sure don't need any drug induced "help" to fuck it up more.
how about looking at the genetic damage such drugs do, thats fucking great for the gene pool.
And actually i would say the effects of anti-depressants are illusory, that is why most paitnets must always remain on them and even increase dose. It is a band-aid on a sucking chest wound.
As far as the rest of your statements, it is the same typical shit you hear from drug apologists all the time... it is all propaganda to try to justify stupidity.
And, Dylan... no. sorry, not a talented lyricist
Which I why i have a friend that lives in a wheel chair because of the damage done to his bone tissue from doing acid when he was young. His spine won't hold his weight anymore without breaking. Rob, you remember Tash, right?Quote:
LSD and Psilocybin have demonstrated virtually non-existent toxicity in healthy subjects, even at many-milligram doses thousands of times higher than are taken recreationally.
I know lots of "talented" musicians and artists that do lots of drugs to help them create. Ninty nine percent of what they create is all about drugs. Even Jim Morrison's stuff. Ever read any of his published journals? ALL CRAPPY and all about drugs. I look at the stuff I created in high school when I was on drugs. There are drug referrences in every corner on every page. The songs I wrote were "Dylan" quality lame about getting high and comming down. tThe good stuff was all done in my dry periods.
Even when I was at my worst, I never signed up to a message board that was about hot chicks and intelligent topics and ask "Where can I find drugs? Do you know how to make them?"
My advice kid, take a bath, get a hair cut, get a job. Even I have one of those.

the main problem with sythetics is the quality of 'street acid'... it's damn near impossible to make cleanly outside a lab. so the 'toxicity' issue is HUGE... I've been poisoned so many times it's not even funny. I'm lucky though, I quit before something really bad happened to me, and I know enough about holistic medicine, and wotnot to detox what's left 15 years later... (and psilocybin does contain toxins, it's a mildly poisonous mushroom, the main danger here is mistaking them for a different more toxic species)
cheshire centauri, I don't want you to feel like your position is being unreasonably attacked by ignorant straight edgers who don't know what you're referencing.
I read the collective works of Leary, McKenna, Lilly, Burroughs, et al. too, back when I was into that stuff. I totally discount alot of it as over hyped BS... shit saint carlos casteneda has been proven time, and again to be a completely full of shit fraud (do a google search, you'll come across more than enough info.)
I know that whole Alex Grey 'higher consciousness through etheogens' crowd. They're as full of shit as the saucer contactees...
there are deeper demensions to consciousness, and yeah tribal peoples have used drugs in their rituals for millenia... even MORE tribal people induced trance through auto-hypgnosis/hypnogogic methods... check out the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, and the work of Micheal Harner, or The Coaltion for Dream Change's John Perkins. Both were intitally introduced to ayahusca, and then moved beyond it.
the thing that trips me out isn't that DMT replicates some similar aspects of the neouro-chemicals that cause dreaming... it's that our ownn neurology has MUCH MORE POTENT compounds that are available to us EVERYNIGHT FOR FREE!!!!
I've taken all the drugs, listened to all the lectures, read all the books (exaggerating of course... I've read enough of them, okay?) to know that ultimately psychedelics are a waste of time... I was alot more 'visionary' at 14 before I started taking acid (which I took before I started drinking, or using anything else BTW) then I ever was afterward.... shit, if anything cannibis was what allowed me to become a socialized human being, before that I wouldn't talk to people, and didn't give a rat's ass for shared exprience... yay confomity...
meditation, dream control, trance states are safer faster, cheaper, more reliable, and more effective methods for consciousness exploration...
but hey, what the fuck do I know right? it's probably still 199? and I'm probably still sitting in that movie theater wondering when that first hit of acid will kick in... man, it's been like what? 5 minutes?
All right, I'm sorry. I just recently in the past few months , well.. maybe a year to a year and a half, got into acid and shrooms. No one would tell me anything about any of them. I wanted advice and to learn so I came to ask you guys based on the fact that it seems you all know alot about them. I don't trust many sites because the info is always different. If somebody could relate a site to me about learning the principles of LSD and Shrooms. Possibly what are the called .. GLORY SEEDS? than that would be much appreciated. I looked at a couple posts and I have realised this sight isnt quite what iI thought it was. Thank you for your advice.

I'll say this about you: that has got to be the most mature and intelligent response you could have made. Hippie or not, you're cool in my book. Welcome.

um...i'm not a hippy. and in any case, i'll have my hair whatever which way i choose. I thought you were anti-totalitarianism?! ;)Quote:
