From what I have read, of early American riverboat days, and what the French did: was you poured it in a glass, put a knife (butter knife) along the top and put a cube of sugar on it. Then, you poured water on the sugar cube until it dissolved and went into the Absinthe. Then it would take on a different color. Probably one of the biggest pre-cursors to mixed drinks, I would think.

Well, enjoy it. It's still illegal here in the States and last I recall they seemed to have an opinion of it that it was pretty much a Narcotic here. Still, to make it really good, it's supposed to take a lot of time to make. More info at: sepulchritude.com/chapelperilous/absinthe/index.html

Re: What's your favorite beer?
Absinthe may be illegal here, but you can order a bottle on line and have it shipped here. It's not illegal to import, just to sell.

Re: What's your favorite beer?
Just for informational purposes: The stuff with the formaldehyde is Sang Thip Royal Thai Liquor. It's basically rice whiskey; the version I have is the "superior", meaning it's aged 5 years.
It actually tastes pretty good, but I tend to save it for extreme cases. It's also hard to come by, and since I don't have any people in Thailand any more, this bottle has to last. If you have any mates in Australia who holiday in Thailand, try to get them to mail you a bottle.

Re: What's your favorite beer?
I really like a few rounds of Sake Bombs with a bunch of friends. I like the cans that Sopporo has, but I enjoy Asahi more. I usually drink Heineken though.

I frequently buy Euroshopper beer (You'll probably won't know the brand, it's the cheapest you'll find, only 59 eurocents per 0,5 liter) Everyone in amsterdam calls it Zwerverbier, Bum-beer when translated to english (no, that's not bum as in "ass")

Re: What's your favorite beer?
If it's beer, then is Plzenjsko Pivo (Plzenj=Pils) or Staropramen (two old scool beer's coming from tchek's)

Re: What's your favorite beer?
I mostly drink finnish beers, my favourit is the local one called Karhu= A Bear. It even came to third place on some very big beer festivals this year. From imported ones I like Guinness and Carlsberg. Absinthe is some evil stuff, last I drank it I became so funny that I nearly got beaten up by group of 40 people.

Re: What's your favorite beer?
Guinness girl here. It's because I had an irish nana whose influence came over me. I used to steal sips of it during St. Pattys day when I was younger, over the traditional corn beef, cabbage and soda bread I ate.
I also enjoy a good wine :)

If you ever go to Tornio, there is a beer making plant there, and every few days all you can smell is beer. Let me tell you, you better like beer, thats all you can smell for hours.
