It's happened before. A british admiral died (I think it was Trafalgar) so they stuck him in a barrel of rum during the rest of the voyage. When they got back to England, the barrel was empty except for the body.
You need to use volume and not density for these calculations unless you are worried about issues like buoyant force. You could put a lead box or a wooden box in there, and they'd displace the same amount of rum.Quote:

It's likely they initially thought there was a lot more rum in the barrel, because of the weight of the body.
