What about german food? Just kidding. That has to be one of the nastiest ethnic foods. I think all eastern European cusine is wierd. My dads german and eats fucked up stuff like pig hoofs, they look so rude. He eats head cheese and sardines out of the tin. Ugghhh. The smell of the fridge growing up was an abomination. Rouladen and wiener schnitzell are so gross.
im not even sure i want to remember what head cheese is.
in russia theres a classic dish thats basically... fish pie. ew!
Indian food is the best.
my favorite are pizza pockets. who knows whats in that shit!
yeah.. sorry, but from what I've seen "soul food" is just american food, which is really fucking bad for you because most of it is loaded with salt, butter and fat and a lot of it is deep fried. I just can't think of flavorless generic greaseball crap as a true ethnic food, and if it is, it says a lot about the culture that has to sell two seats to a person so that they can fit on an airplane.
From the Wikipedia Article on Soul Food:
Quote:
Frequent consumption of these ingredients without significant exercise or activity to counteract the high caloric intake can contribute to disproportionately high occurrences of obesity, hypertension, cardiac/circulatory problems and/or diabetes
hah ewww thats nasty TC...
but so funny.
I feel like I'm asking for it, considering the passion with which you think Soul food is disgusting, but I would like to disagree. Its not flavorless, or generic. We're not talking about McDonalds here. "Soul Food" Is ethic because it is generally cooked by Southern Blacks, thus would be considered American Ethnic. And although you can ne're find a Salad in sight, There is something to be said for the richness and taste of a good Southern Home cooked meal. Unique BBQ, Spicy fried chicken, Hush puppies, Slaw, Beans, and Taters may seem like flavorless generic greasball crap, but to some people its valid and yummy as hell.Quote:

Soul food was a favorite before the body decided that 'food' was no longer dead animals, milk/pus and wheatpaste...
...see, you've got to actually know some black folks, and get invited to their homes, or picnics, or barbeques, or church functions to get the really tasty down home soul food... Sweet Potato Pie was always my all time fav-o-rite, i'd ask for one instead of a birthday cake... mmm, collard greens, blackeyed peas... damn!!! LOL... they have restaurants, but you still have to know where to go, and not get freaked out when you're the only whiteboy in sight...
i lived next door to an italian cook, he was 81 years old, ran a catering business out of his basement, and would have me come by to help him out... especially when he'd go to the food distribution hub, and load up his van at 4a once a week... he drank fresh tomato juice with vodka...while he was driving :1orglaugh and taught me how to make some of the best italian dishes i've ever had... although his eggplant 'sang-widges' will forever remain a mystery... (i gained 100lbs. livin' next to that guy... not his fault though...)
i dig Japanese 'soul food'... that is REAL ramen noodle shops!!! where you can get japanese Curry Rice!!! (yeah!) not everyplace does it well, but maaaan, a good Curry Rice is hard to beat (and with it's deep fried 'katsu' porkchop every bit as deadly as southern fried chicken...)
yep i sure used to dig me some 'food'.... now the only soul food i can eat is Watermelon (and i'm fin' to get me some tomorrow...)
Don't forget the Red Velvet cake.Quote:

i'm waiting for someone not from the Great Satan to describe McDonald's as ethnic, because it comes from a mysterious foreign country far away.
I will eat just about anything, as long as there is not to oily. The oils have a bad reaction to my stomach & bowels.
French is good, but lately I've been really into Thai, Indian and Ethiopian.Quote:

There's a really good casual-dining (as opposed to fine-dining) Ethiopian place up the street from my apartment. Their bread feels oddly like skin and bounces if you roll it into a ball.Quote:

Ethiopian Food. I just love Jejeera (did I spell that right?).
You don't spell it, you eat it! ;-)Quote:
