HBO did one of those long form cable dramas, like The Sopranos, True Blood, Mad Men, etc. that no one has thought of a proper name for the the format of yet. It was set in a real Western town which, in a very short timespan went from pioneers in tents to having telephones, at a time when those were a rarity. The series was called Deadwood. The viewpoint character, who watches the town grow and change, is Al Swearengen, the saloon/brothel-owner, played with panache by Ian McShane. He is based on a real life character who really sucked, but they made him a sympathetic antihero for the purposes of the show. I happen to swear a lot. I mean, I cuss when I write, but I am waaaaaaaaay more foul-mouthed in person. The character on Deadwood is named Swearengen and he swears a lot. I mean, he swears so much that I found it unsettling and I swear a lot. His favorite swearword is cocksucker and just being around him causes other characters to start using the word copiously too. Like it is priceless in the part Morning Glory mentioned where the Chinese meat/body disposal guy uses the word cocksucker, but he uses it like an everyday word because he is learning English from interacting with dudes like Al Swearengen.
