Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
So I saw this documentary last night where this cute boy with a nice body and so-so tattoos went to an, uhm, firearm artist who shot him through the left shoulder, with the intent of creating an interesting exit wound. The Sundance documentary segment was called Delusions in Modern Primitivism.
Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
No, but I'd set up a shop like that, make them sign a waiver and then shoot every single retard who came in right in the brain.:thumb:

This show was awesome because the, uhm, collecter tells the artist that he doesn't want to wear ear protection because he wants the full experience. And he asks if the shooting artist wants him to sign a waiver stating that he declined the ear protection. So the artist is all indignant and says something along the lines of, "I'm not concerned about having you sign a piece of paper because right now this is not legally recognized as an art form, but maybe what we are doing here today will change that."

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
Hahaha, what a couple o' retards. I hope he sneezed and blew the guy's face of and managed to catch a ricochet in the throat...

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
It's a nightmare of popular culture. I'm all for body mods, but thats seem like an attemp to BUY 'street cred'. I can totally see it "I wanna be like '50' dog".
Maybe I'm wrong, but they sounds like retards to me. I'd like to hear their motivations.
-
Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
I'd answer a firm "no", because not only do I not need any random wounds, but bullets can do extremely unpredictable things in the body, like ricochet off of bone and travel far from point of entry. Hells no.

The motivation was apparently something along the lines of bored with piercings, had a pal who got it done and liked what that guy's scar looked like, saw a show on people spending life in prison and somehow related to them, and felt shot down and oppressed by society and wanted to physically express that.

But, dude, the artist was like totally aiming and like knew where the bullet should go and how to pick the best caliber for the collector's build and everything.

He got a guy to shoot him, a guy who spent time figuring out what sort of scar would look most and interesting and what size and type of bullet would be ideal for producing what variety of exit would on what size and body type of person.
They had an ambulance waiting outside to take him to the hospital.

Actually he was in a smallish town in Texas and being a bit offbeat in any way there can put one in a pretty oppressed position. Thing is, you can move.

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
a couple of guys did this on the radio a few years ago in seattle.

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
No...I'm not a fan of being hurt...
For millions of dollars and fame like that rapper guy...$.50 or whatever...I'd consider it...I think...I dunno.

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
DAMN....I just hope that some of the other prison fads dont catch on in mainstream....
I can hear it now.. "Yeah dude check it...I got my prison Tear drop tat here under my eye, Got this cool gun shot scar, And here is the scar from the tooth brush I scubbed on the concrete, and check this, Thats right I got Phucked in the Ass....you gotta do it man everyone else has"
At least he went to someone who had an idea of what he was doin and not just to Bob his best friend whose dad has a .44 Caliber Cannon in the closet..
"Dude just nick me OK!!....OWWW FUCK !!! Grab my arm and get me to the Emergency room..."

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
I don't know I mean what if it's like tatoos and you really get a taste for it. I can't imagine having the itch to get a new bullet wound every year.
The shooter has an interesting art, controlling something like a bullet wound on an artistic level would take a lot of practice as well as understanding anatomy enough to not, you know, kill the guy to death. On the victim's end, I dunno, it sounds kinda rich white kid syndrome to me, but the artist is interesting. I still don't want to be his canvas though.
But the thing is, for everyone who is saying how stupid it is, isn't that what people without any say about piecings and tatoos? The kid's reasoning sounds stupid, but it is just scarification with a different tool.

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
Did they say how much the "artist" charged for his "services"?
I'm with Rockwulf, I'd even go as far as to offer my services for free in most cases. :thumb:
On a more rational note, wouldn't you figure a real scarificaton artist could simulate a bullet wound with much better accuracy and less pain?

Hehehe..."like totally aiming". That put a smile on my face. :D
Seriously, though, a bullet path can be significantly altered by striking bone. It's just way too unpredictable to risk.
...even if shooting for scars made sense, which to me it just doesn't.

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
I saw the same footage and both of the guys didn't exactally give me the idea that they had much upstairs in the brains department. As far as weither I would do it or not..Well after getting shot for free and having quite the "real" experience. I would have to say no. I have a nice big scar and the memory of hot metal searing through my flesh that I wouldn't trade for anything, but still I would be unwilling to advise anyone else to do it on purpose. For a cool scar and a much more controlled enviroment I would reccomend branding or scarification. Its cheaper and much more "legal" for everyone concerned.

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
To put it quite simply....teenage ganbanger with a 9mm put two in me from about five feet away. Clean penetration with no vitals hit, but massive blood loss.
DETROIT ROCKS!!!

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
I'd totally let someone shoot me for a date with scar13. :)
lol does that count?
-
Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
'for the scar' is not a good enough reason for me
-
Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
I wouldn't. I've seen people shot up close and no way I'd do it.
-
Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
I totally saw that, and I talked to someone not long ago who had seen it also and they said they thought it was fake. I'm really hoping so because I remember cringing when the "shooter" was taking off his bloody apron without gloves on. Oh, and to answer your question, HELL no!!
-
Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
what would be next.... a landmine wound from war :) "I lost my leg when I was carying my friend on my back"
that's it.... I'm opening my own private landmine area for people to run over it :) hmmmm... how much to charge for trip?

I've seen a photo of the guy who got shot with a pic of his scar later. The director is kind of coy on whether it was real or not. If it was real, then there might be legal concerns which would make it wise for him to be ambiguous about it. If it was fake, I think it should have been (1) a bit better and (2) denoted as such, but it really didn't come across as fake to me. That would have been some hella good acting and ear for dialogue on the writing, if it was not a real documentary. And I feel like a fake would not have required the kids, don't try this at home disclaimer because it is not like Oceans 11 started off telling you that it is actually unsafe to rip off casino bosses and romance their women. Generally, fiction does not require that.

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
i have a pamphlet from the first annual tattoo convention in vancouver, and it actually says inside, that piercing the skin for a non medical reason is actually illegal... which makes tattooing, piercing, and plastic surgery technically illegal. but i think this takes the cake haha...

That gives me an idea . I'm going to get me some napalm scarring done and then maybe some suicide scars, but then again I could have myself made to look like a old viking by getting my buddies to whack at me with an axe
the list goes on :1orglaugh

Re: Would you let someone shoot you with a gun for the cool scar?
oww jeebus... that image with the axe was not cool!! ack!
