Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
I've had jobs where I worked for people who were nice on a day-to-day basis, in the sense that they were personable, but who always effed up and tended to try to slide out of blame so they could feel likable.
I've had jobs where I worked for people who were hard to get along with but got done what needed doing.
Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable, if both traits were not on offer in the same gig?
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
Capable. I find it insanely frustrating to find someone really nice who cannot do their job. It takes ages to get to the nitty gritty of them being incapable, because many people tend to treat nice people with fuzzy gloves for much longer than is necessary.
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
Someone nice I can teach to do the job, it is a lot harder to teach someone competent to work well with others. Not saying it can't be done, but 9 out of 10 times competence is just training and practice.
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
I'd rather work for someone sweet... and therefore, ripe for usurping by a capable chap like myself. Promotion, here I come!

In my proffession? Someone sweet. Someone capable is competition.

Lol, that's a good point. I think it really depends on what you're doing. As far as working with other models and photographers go I'd prefer they be nice since there are so many out there who will try to screw you over, plus it kinda sucks to be getting naked for someone who's a dick. In my other jobs I would have to say the opposite. When you're working in an office or lab you want other people to be doing their job so it doesn't screw you over. I'd rather deal with someone who maybe isn't the most pleasant person as long as they know what they're doing.
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
my job............capable for sure......otherwise I'd be dealing with those problems too
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
Capable. Sweetness gets nothing done on the shop floor.
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
Nobody ever pays me because I'm nice, neither do I employ anyone for it. The most capable people I work with are verging on the sociopathic, but "GSOH, looks cute in a hat" doesn't figure on many resumes unless you're a clown or a Dr Seuss impersonator.
Nice is a matter of luck, capable is a matter of selection.
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
capable. i hate people who get away with doing a terrible job by seeming too nice to correct.
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
I think outside the catbox - both.
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
I'd rather work for someone capable. My last manager was one of the sweetest women I've ever met but when it came down to it I had to do my share of work plus the work of other people because she was too sweet to scold them when they were jacking around. The current manager at my job is an absolute dick but he knows his role well and how to push people to get them to do what needs to be done. It really comes down to a trade in atmosphere for efficiency. I'd rather work in an environment that wasn't all smiles and hugs in exchange for all the things that need to be done getting done.

We just had a new supervisor transfer from another plant about a month ago and he is proving himself to be a pretty awesome combination of the two. Thank Jebus. We'll see how long that lasts.
Re: Would you rather work for someone sweet or capable?
capable, no doubt about it. id rather work with someone who actually know what they are doing. even if i can't stand their personality, id rather they know what they are doing. or at least be able to learn
