What are your favorite cities?
I am doing a travel column as part of my excuses to visit lots of places -- err, I mean as part of the new version of Blue Blood online. The first installment was about a trip to Vegas which is one of my favorite cities. I almost moved there when I moved to LA, but then I realized that I loved visiting Las Vegas too much.
Which cities should I visit and write about here?
Which cities do you think are the best to live in and which are the best to visit but ya wouldn't wanna live there?
-
Re: What are your favorite cities?
Springfield looks like a fun place. And Mr Burns seems so jolly - always saying, "Excellent" and laughing.
-
Re: What are your favorite cities?
Toronto, Toronto, and Toronto. I'm really in the wrong country, I think.

Why Toronto?

Re: What are your favorite cities?
Great people, decent enough clubs (which would actually be more up your alley than mine, what with the pretty sizable fetish scene there), the booze flows like water (again, more up your alley than mine, as I'm retired...Toronto was the city that caused me to quit, if that's any indication), excellent shopping (especially record and comic book shopping...I hear the clothes shopping's good too, but I never go clothes shopping...), and great food. Overall, it feels to me like New York did before Giuliani ruined it.

Re: What are your favorite cities?
Hmm, speaking of Canadian cities to make ya hang up your clubbing hat. I had a REALLY good time in Vancouver this fall. But that city would kill me if I lived there. I think.
-
Re: What are your favorite cities?
I've heard that Vancouver has that effect on people, good times, but pretty rough on the people having them. Still like to see the joint someday, more than anywhere else on the West Coast that I haven't been to.
-
Re: What are your favorite cities?
I liked Boston and Salem... and I was supposed to go to NYC, but that got postponed until september... :(
-
Re: What are your favorite cities?
I like some things about Boston, but I'm not sure I'd want to live there. Spent a lot of time there during the first half of '03.
There's still enough left of NYC to make it worthwhile, though it's not even close to being as cool as it was in the late 80's and early '90's (and from what I read in everyones' biographies, it was pretty spent then, too; however, if I was around for anything like the early 80's in NYC, I'd be so totally dead now...).

One of my greatest fears in life is that I would end up in NYC. Everything that is awesome about cities is ten times cooler there. But everything that is hideous about cities is ten times more horrific there. Or at least it was in the 80's. Haven't spent that much time there in recent years.
Love Jay McInerney though. Not *exactly* biographies, but ...

"Story of my life." Love the "in the attic" anecdote in that one. Christ, it *was* the '80's when I read that, wasn't it?

Oh cool! Most people have never even heard of Story of My Life and that is my favorite of his books!

Re: What are your favorite cities?
My favorite part of Story of My Life is when she is selling her pearls and the guy is all coming onto her but in a gross financial transaction kind of way and she tells him she'll fuck pretty much anyone, just not him.

I used to have this fantasy that some time I would save up and take a month sort of off or maybe a summer and write the Great American Novel in Portland. Sort of ruined now, but I might do it some time anyway.

You "think" or you "know".... ;) Lucy Mae Brown was a great place in Vancouver....How can any place beat a line of hookers waiting outside the front door?
Vancouver and Montreal...two very cool places.

The weather in Springfield seems sort of undependable though. Kind of LA most of the time with the occasional blizzard. Wardrobe planning might be hard.
-
Re: What are your favorite cities?
Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver are all top of my list.. probably Toronto in first place, but that could just be the fantastic time we had on that particular festival weekend. I've lived in all the good cities in the US, which has somewhat spoiled them for me.
However, it does feel *right* to be back in LA la land.

I miss Hong Kong, but then again when I stayed in Hong Kong, I was living the ramen life on a fillet mignon budget, so, yeah, I had it easier than I wanted to admit but I picked up smoking and saw this all-girl punk band called Cobra and hung with Mod revivalists. It kicked ass.

I really wanted to visit Hong Kong before the switchover, but was on a ramen budget at the time. I hear it has not changed much though. Still definitely on my list of must-visit-someday cities.

Well, if it matters any, it comes highly recommended by myself.
I also have heard that it hasn't really changed *too* much, but now trying to visit has become a pain-in-the ass when all I needed before was my (old, now-expired) British passport and UK driver's license.

Any idea what the requirements are now for visiting? Although I seem to have misplaced my passport after Vancouver, so I'm not going anywhere until I find it.

Not a clue, but my sister and brother-in-law are under the impression that one has to apply six months in advance or something. I definately plan on looking into that, in the event that I can ever afford to go back, but if I find out anything, I'll pass on the info to you (provided I remember).

Take me with you! I would love to go to Canada! Alwyas wanted to go.
Oh the shenanigans to be had...
-
Re: What are your favorite cities?
Gotta go with Vegas though. Born and raised here, kinda used to the glitz and glamour, still cant leave it for more than a week without getting homesick
-
Re: What are your favorite cities?
Well, I'll always have a special place for Atlanta.. I so love that city.. I just can't live there! Same goes for Vegas.. You can only live here so long, but it is cool as hell to visit!.. Toronto has always done me right, as well.. but Canada didn't like Szandora too much a few years ago.. I think they've worked out their differince though..
-
Re: What are your favorite cities?
Yeah, Canada tried really hard to patch things up with Szandora. Still, I don't know what you people see in Vancouver. That is one of the lamest cities I've been to. I have a thing for Vegas, but I think I may be biased. Still, I love coming home to Victoria. Small, but it's home. And has some fucking cool bands.

Coulda just been some of the company we were keeping and a few other details. Maybe we'll coerce you into coming out with us if we all head up there. Hell of a roadtrip, but . . .

But, Victoria is cool - minus the shitty customer service. That's why I had to knock over that bitches straws at the cafe (they looked lovely rolling all over the floor as I walked out of the door). Fuck her. I'm American, goddamnit!

Maybe could even poke Vaughn with a stick to come out.

Hell yea. Canada rocks! but you know home is where the heart is... Atlanta still rocks, just to visit every now and again. I really liked Chicago.. and you know we LOVE some New Orleans..
