It aggravates me beyond belief when my father , grandmother, and other people insult all the stuff I care about, especially Gothic and Goth type stuff. Any suggestions on how to deal with that?
my current method of dealing with that is just getting EXTREMELY PO'ed, and then walking away.
I hate when people insult my ideals,etc...but I dont really know what to do about it, and it really aggravates me.
Any suggestions, or am I doing the right action to take already?

Ignore them. There's too many other things to be doing. I refuse to let myself worry about what others think of what I do or believe. Find other people to be around who DO share your beliefs.
I always saw that as something important actually. Being challenged in what you believe in has value...even if it is done to be mean. Being around like minded people is great...but never make it exclusive. It's good to have people around who will challenge you...preferably with respect mind you...but still...those total jerks at least cause you to feel passionate or really look at what you hold faith in.
It's a necessary evil.
Laugh. It makes them feel totally impotent.
Tequila's right. It IS important to be challenged about your beliefs and lifestyle. There are people who challenge you intellectually, with respect & caring, but there are those who are just plain mean, narrow-minded, and abusive. Of course it makes your skin thicker and your spirit stronger being around mean fuckers, but I don't think abuse is necessary. There is a world out there with people who will challenge you, who won't be mean to you, even if they're different from you. But in my case I got so fed up, angry, and bored... and left. I think it was the best decision I ever made for myself.
Either ignore them, show them my jack nicholson-smile and laugh, or beat the living shit out of them. Always depends on the situation...

I have no problem with chewing people out for their bigotries and misconceptions, but then there are other times when it's best to keep one's mouth shut (like, say, on the job -- if you want to keep said job).

Kill them with kindness. I try my best to just smile and tell them to have a good day, ect...Not letting people see what gets to you is always a great way to get back at them. Ohh.. Just wanted to share some common thourts about others. There are and will always be these comments about how we look, how we act and how we think, even how we walks, where we goes at night. I say.. go for an proper "sit down" session and try to let them see things from your point of wiew. I usually wears black and are shaved. I often get these looks like.. "He´s a fucking skinhead"?!! .. Ha?!! Now.. I have never sympatised with the right wing. Ohh no. I mean that some of us walks on the boarderline because we wants the oppinion. Ok. I do understand your feeling here. What i can try to help you with is allready posted. Love and kindness. The family are so annoying sometimes with theirs comments and when i recall my safetypin in my chin (dont ask) so do i remember that time with a big lauf but I didnt lauf at the time.
Talk to them. Dont accept comments and bullying as an average day thing. Explain that even real nerds - programmers can be labeled as goths. Stand up for the cause, the things you believe in.
The idea is still that we want to show what we are and what we like here in life.
I may speak for myselfe but we do dress like this and do like some kind of no-mainstream sort of music because we know better.
