Should The Pirate Bay Guys Go to Jail?
Quote:
As a creative person, I'm a lot more likely to own intellectual property than, ya know, tangible physical real world property. But, damn, Pirate Bay founders Fredrik Neij and Peter Sunde have been sentenced to jail time. In addition, banker Carl Lundstrm has been sentenced to jail time for financially backing the site.
Given how often I hear pirates, with good corporate and government jobs, talk about how some musician, whose royalties are probably lower than the pirates' incomes, are...

I've never used pirate bay, so I wouldn't know, but sharing has always been around, it will always be abused.......oh well, eventualy something will work out with that..........
Re: Should The Pirate Bay Guys Go to Jail?
i dont necessarily think that jail is the best place for them. yes, they did something i wrong; and are wholly deserving of punishment for it. shut down their affiliated sites, fine then egregiously, make them do community service, etc. let them serve the jail time in a more low-level correctional facility, one that houses chiefly nonviolent offenders. and make sure they have absolutely zero contact with the internet or a computing device during their sentence.
i mainly just dont want to see these guys go from piracy to more serious and/or violent crimes. and turn into life-long criminals.
Re: Should The Pirate Bay Guys Go to Jail?
No? Intellectual property as an ethical concept is made of fail. They're not in the wrong; the law is.

'Gateway crimes'? Sounds like fun.
Re: Should The Pirate Bay Guys Go to Jail?
I am a musician myself. Yes, what they did is a big gyp. HOWEVER, it's REALITY and one cannot really stop stuff like this. One only can control what they themselves do and not what others do. Sharing has always been around and it will always be abused... just like MR. Karl said.

"Wasn't it a millionaire, who said imagine no possessions?"
I should point out that Pirate Bay was making money off of the "free information" they helped distribute. So, information should be free, especially when they are making money for it.
Seriously, I have mixed feelings on the IP piracy issue, and think the RIAA and MPAA are raging douches, but guys like this, they really help build the douches' case.
Have you ever noticed these free info types are never putting up anything of value for free themselves?
