Right now I'm reading a book about theoretical physics and Dante (those are two different books, BTW.) and I got a couple other one's on the backburner.

Anyone read any Douglas Preston detective stories? A friend highly recommended him to me.

All of Don Winslow's recent crime novels are really excellent. His older stuff is a fun read, but his newer stuff just sets a new standard for all others in the genre to strive for. Haven't read his erotica.

I'd read anything he wrote even if it was a list of ingredients on the shampoo bottle....Oh, surely I jest...

But he has such a cinematic pacing to his writing.... and I've had to have read his book 4-5 times.
Its exciting every time read it..

I know there were some very decent steamy scenes, of beautiful description in the Bobby Z book.

The book called Why the Tree Loves the Axe is very interesting. Cant remember the author.

i would recommend anything by Matthew Reilly (extremely high paced action that i will start and then not put down until i realise im dizzy from holding my breath), Raymond E Feist (an incredibly in depth fantasy writer that really drags you in), or David Eddings (another fantasy writer who has the greatest, most believable and likeable characters ever). idfd your after specific books, i would suggest starting with Ice Station by Reilly, Magician by Feist, and The Redemption Of Althalus by Eddings to get familiar with them.

also, Fallen Dragon is a really awesome book by Peter F Hamilton (i think) that i highly recommend. i was never really able to get into any of his other stories though. very scientific, character driven science fiction with a great amount of action and mystery to keep you interested if that doesnt float your boat.

finally, if you havent read Enders Game by Orson Scott Card, go get it. ignore all my other suggestions, go to your local library, AND BORROW IT NOW.

Sometimes when I'm reading a book, esp from a well known writer, that pumps out a book every yr or two.... and I can recognize WHY they're successful....
BUT WHAT PISSES ME OFF... is the 'button pushing'
Adding stuff SOLEY for an emotional reaction.... NOT simply from inspiration.

That's the point, Writer looks for anything that will keep readers concentration. And trust me, they like when they know that people are emotionally affected by their writings. It gives them feeling of control over human emotions and it's their own favorite part.

Anything by Scott Westerfeld, espicall the Midnighters Trilogy The Uglies series Peeps and The last Days.
The Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, Decipher and Gene by Stel Pavlou, any Matthew Reily books and Flesh and Blood I think It was written by Graham Masters.
At the moment Im reading Maximum Ride : The Angel Experiment, Invasion! First Strike, White Chapel Gods and I am about to start World War 2.1.
I start a book, get bored, start another, get bored and end up reading half a dozen books at a time.

That's the point, Writer looks for anything that will keep readers concentration. And trust me, they like when they know that people are emotionally affected by their writings. It gives them feeling of control over human emotions and it's their own favorite part.

Thats why I USUALLY like a person's FIRST book they put out... its usually spewed via inspiration.

I enjoy a plusibe story line, Matthew reilys books have the characters doing amazing things, but he tries to make it possible, and Peeps and The Last Days are both viable situations, Vampire/Zombie making Parasites.

Any pop up book is awesome after 8 or 9 shots of absinth, but do it at home, not in the library.

Never done absinthe... I'm not against it. I'd try it.

Personally I think it's over rated, mostly because it's so difficult to get in the states. People want what they can't have...even though good liquor stores are now stocking it in the US. If you like licorice/anise flavor save your cash and get Jager.
Or better yet, my personal fave is Chartreuse.
