Why do you cheer the USSR? Most socialists I know unequivocally condemn a regime that murdered 20 million human souls (that being a conservative estimate by french socialists)

Oh, I don't condone those acts of the USSR. But alot of the things about the USSR, I liked.

If you want an example, they got us into space, for one thing.

It helps that they had some kick-ass music, but that's just a side-bonus.

I like a lot of the composers. I don't think a Shostakovich was really a product of the USSR. A lot of the artists of the period were actually using code to make fun of the USSR. I believe Russia and Ukraine had always offered some of the world's greatest musicians, writers, artists, and scientists.

haha. I'm the Grandson of Ukrainian immigrants. I have heard the anthem. I understand most of the propaganda posters. I detest the USSR albeit they did have some powerful aesthetics (as did Nazi Germany for that matter). The fascination with it doesn't surprise or bother me. I am always just curious when someone mentions it.

That's cool. I have nothing against socialists per se. I don't see a superstate arising over there at this point. Hopefully, the will of the people in each independent country will be heard.
