Selkies are seals who could shed their skins and take human form. A female Selkie is able to discard her seal skin and come ashore as a beautiful maiden. On the Faroe Islands it is believed that every ninth night these 'seal-folk' shed their skins and dance on the beaches. If a human can capture her skin, the selkie can be forced to become a fine, if wistful, wife. However, should she ever find her skin she immediately returns to the sea, leaving the husband to pine and die.

The males raise storms and upturn boats to avenge the indicriminate slaughter of the seals.

I'm rather fond of Kappas, a Japanese water demon. they are usually turtle-like, although they may also resemble monkeys and ducks and any combination of the three.

Their favorite thing in the world is cucumber. If you give one a cucumber they will love you. But be careful because their second favorite thing is livers, especially children's livers. and they like to remove the liver by sticking thier hand up your anus and pulling it out!

They can't breathe air, but there head is shaped like a bowl and it holds water, which allows them to roam freely. They are sticklers for etiquette, so if you see one you should bow to it. They will be unable to resist bowing, which makes the water fall out of their head, and they will have to jump back into a lake or river.

I really love that basically there purpose is to get kids to eat vegetables, stay away from water and to be polite.

I also like Tanuki's. They are not mythical, because they are real. But they are good luck, and the larger thier testicles, the more lucky they are.
