We all know the classics: Lovecraft, Shelley, Poe, Stoker. But who is writing great horror fiction these days? The kind that really gets under your skin and becomes a part of your psyche?

I just finished Isabel Burning by Donna Lynch, and I think it might be one of those greats for me, and maybe for the entire genre. I had a brief but disturbing nightmare related to the book the first night after I started reading it. Its visuals are perfectly clear in my mind's eye; its monsters, human and otherwise, are compelling, memorable and both familiar yet unfathomable. There were twists that I should have seen coming but didn't, which made them all the more terrible when they came to light. It was an awesome ride and I sincerely recommend it if this sounds at all like something you'd enjoy.
