I slept with an Ex once. I know in the grander scheme of things that isn't all that bad. I mean, she was an often institutionalized dangerous nut-job, but I find that kind of endearing, so that wasn't the problem. However, in my universe I try to have stronger resolve than that, and I kind of regret the dumb decision to cross the commitment to myself to not do that.

Another time: I broke up with a girl at about 11:00pm on new years eve, while in her bed, getting ready to 'celebrate' and looking back on that I feel kind of dumb for being so insensitive. I'm sure I could have handled that more smoothly and reasonably. It's just that it kind of suddenly dawned on me that I really didn't want to be there. Midnight struck as I was walking home. I don't feel dumb about the choice, just how it went down. I mean, I guess it was better than leaving her right after. That's how I saw it anyway. But a smarter approach could have made it a lot less jarring I'm sure.

I had told some of my (what i thought were my close friends) what was going on. Well they decided to tell everyone at school! This person came to me and said that if I told my friends I was lying, that we could be together...so guess what my dumb ass did??? You fucking got it! I made a complete fool of myself and told my friends that I had lied and had never slept with this person! Needless to say we were never a couple...I fell for it...

I don't know if that is the dumbest part or the fact that I continued to sleep with this person!

He did rather exaggerate the implications of that one event, but I too agree with his general sentiment.

There's this thing with 'girls', as a sort of exclusive culture, where they demand to be indulged in the most ridiculous sensitivities and satisfied in the absurdest of demands under the general implication that this is 'how girls work' and that everyone ought to either know this, or feel properly sorry that they don't.

Of course, none of it is inherent to the female of the human species - it's all just culture and tradition inspired wants. And personally, I find very few things more unattractive than an outspoken desire to be treated according to a double standard, or the demand that I honor some unfounded moral code around someone. I would laugh in a girls face if they tried to push that on me, and tell them they were being an idiot, no matter how hot they were or if I was about to score. I would never even consider getting romantically involved with someone not solidly distantiated from this sexist tradition.

But I keep hearing from guys that they're faced with such things, and they seem to keep buying into the idea that they did something wrong by not knowing or respecting these thoroughly senseless boundaries. And I don't think lady-culture will ever really get the point when otherwise sensible males keep treating it like some sort of big mystery that prompts thorough consideration and careful indulgence. They're being just as dumb as we would be saying the exact same things.
