Default effed up movies, for weirdos!

I figured I'd make a new thread for this, since it was sort of hijacking a different unrelated thread. People were talking about gruesome films that they liked.

Ya know, I like Sam Raimi and Dario Argento movies, but I'm not too big on exploitation "gore for gore sake" flicks, but here's some recommendations if you are into that sort of thing.

The Japanese pretty much invented torture films. In the 60's guys like Koji Wakamatsu did torture S&M, and sex movies. and Teruo Ishii who actually started out his film work on the Godzilla series, but he did a bunch of movies about torture called Joys of torture. Look those guys up they have all sorts of movies.

You guys already mentioned the movie Guinea Pig, it’s actually a series of movies, there are five other films that follow it, basically all of them dealing with mutilation.

Naked Blood is another movie like that.

also Living Hell is supposed to be a pretty good gory horror film, and it draws comparisons to Texas Chainsaw.

Italian director Lucio Fulci, mostly known of his zombie films (I'd check those out if you haven't seen them) did a slasher flick called the New York Ripper that got banned in the UK.

Probably the best, as in cinematic art, torture film is Salo or the 120 days of Sodom based on the book by the Marquis De Sade.

The Men Behind the Sun is about the real torture experiments conducted by the Japanese during WWII. that movie is being sort of remade by the guy who did Visions of Suffering, which isn't all that gory, but if you like weird ass /horror movies you should check it out. The new one is called I think like Diary of A Knife.

Man Bites Dog is a french movie that is supposed to be pretty fucked up, it's a faux-documentary about a serial killer. also I Stand Alone from the guy who did Irreversible, is another one about a violent crazy person.

here's a blog I found where this guy lists his ten most sick movies, several of the one's that we've already mentioned are on there and a bunch I have never heard of before.

Oh yeah, and Raza talked about the Faces/traces of death series. I have one of those on VHS, I'm not sure how many they made but there was a bunch. Some of the stuff on them is fake, but some of it is real. They are pretty tame in comparison to some of the special effects done in movies because well it's kind of illegal to videotape and sell someone being murdered. But they do have stuff on there like autopsy footage.

Man Bites Dog is such a cool movie. I watched it long time ago as a youngster and recently too. It has something to it that makes it so cool. Not the happenings in the movie but the scene, camera, environment etc. Btw, wasn't it Belgian movie?

It was made in Belgium, yes.

True story: I'm walking down this street in Brussels with some friends, and I realize that the whole area looks very familiar. That struck me as odd, because I had never been there before. I'm still trying to puzzle it out when my friend tells me that they shot part of "Man Bites Dog" in that neighborhood.

That was both less confusing and yet somehow more creepy.

Cool, more gory movies, including a bunch I didn't know of.

I'm just gonna quote myself here for completeness, so I don't have to type it all out.

Also, I'm fairly certain that none of it is real in the sense where actual people got cut up. Aside from well-known stuff like Ichi the Killer, Battle Royale and Suicide Club there's the Guinea Pig series, which is half a dozen mostly very gory films with realism ranging from pretty decent (Flower of Flesh and Blood) to absolutely ridiculous (Mermaid in a Manhole). Hum. 'Braindead' is said to be the gories movie ever, and it might be, but it wasn't realistic enough to be erotic, just a lot of fun. There's the movie Kill Bill was based on, Lady Snowblood, which starts off halfway decent but imo gets dragged out a lot - Kill Bill itself was more satisfying, especially where she mutilates that lawyer. You've got that one scene in Return of the Living Dead 3, where the hot zombie chick protagonist shows what masochism can be like when you don't need bodily functions - that's more ero guro meets goth as a personal style than gore in any remotely realistic sense, but very cool nonetheless. Erm. Blood Feast's gore is really dreadful, but it's a classic and the story is pretty hot. 'S'all that was memorable enough to spring to my mind right now, I think.
And of course, there's the recent stuff they've been calling torture porn, mostly Hostel and whatever many SAW movies are out now. Despite the Hollywood ending I sorta liked Hostel, in part for being about realistic human depravity rather than some unknowable supernatural evil. From what I've seen of the SAW series (1 and, iunno, 4?) they're not the worst movies out there, but they don't live up to their reputation of having (re)invented the theme.

Belgium, France, same thing. the only difference is that they put little indentations in their pancakes and cut them square.

Belgian waffles are a whole lot fatter than crepes.

Actually, Belgian fries are fatter than French ones, too. Maybe Belgians just like things fat.

    I have a few:

    Funny Games

    Baxter

    I Stand Alone (I 2nd this movie)

    Bad Boy Bubby

I really like the showtime series "Masters of Horror". There are many really good movies in that collection. If you have not seen any they are great. Most of them are only an hour too, so you don't need to invest so much time watching.

Shit, I watched Van Helsing last weekend. I had never seen it before and fucking-A was that a long movie. Like an hour too long!

The new RAMBO is awesome. I thought it was going to suck, but there are many sweet head-shots. The CG is wicked and the story line is great.

Stallone looks great for his 60s. His forearms look like fucking hams!
