the military conflicts of the past 50 years are no doubt the bloodiest exercises in all of human history, but I think that amount of average Joe's killing each other has actually gone down a lot per capita compared to other historical periods.

and how about all those parents killing kids and husbands killing wives? I guess that doesn't make the international headlines like a political expedient excuse to justify the paranoid budget of the "Defense" Department (who 150 years ago were at least honest enough to call it the War Department.)
