Thread: creative urge

  1. #1

    Default creative urge

Have you ever felt the desire to create something... but you weren't sure what? Music, writing, art, ideas... there are so many ways that human beings can produce interesting and valuable things (or trash, depending on your level of talent/drive/skill). How did you deal with your vague creative urges? Did you just pick one art form and devote yourself to it or did you dabble in a bunch of forms?

Yeah, I do that kind of thing quite a bit.

Usually it's based on something I want.

I might say, "I want some cool brass goggles"...

So I go out and look for supplies, paint, materials, and put something together... Sometimes it looks cool, sometimes lame, but I find that
the more you try to do things, the better you get at them...

Other times it's based on some new skill.
I just recently learned how to use a sewing machine.
So I keep brainstorming ideas of cool stuff to make using it.

Like this week, I think I will make a black and green santa hat...
Will it turn out good? Maybe, maybe not... But the creative urge is there, and the idea is in my head. So I'm going to give it a shot...

That's when I do my music videos. It helps with both the visual and musical aspect I'm craving, while allowing me to make something entertaining for not only myself, but others as well.

I don't get urges, only ideas of interesting stuff I could make, so sometimes I do...

about a year ago I really got into painting. I went out and bought all the supplies and came up with all these ideas and did a bunch of sketches, and then never painted anything. So yeah, that's where I am at about right now.

I have that almost all the time. If I haven't made something or worked on something in the course of a day, I get that, waitaminute, you're forgetting something. I do a lot of stuff though. Sewing, crosstitching, drawing, craft kits, origami... I always have at least three projects on the go.

yeah... that happens to me a lot.
i either do something stupid like make wallpapers with photoshop.
or i do something actually productive like take photos, edit photo sets, play my bass, or write poetry/lyrics.
usually i'm too depressed/lazy to do anything though... so i just sing along to music >.<

With the exception of playing bass and writing poetry/lyrics, that sounds a bit like me. Though I write screenplays and short stories.

This, pretty much. The idea, or at least some abstract feel of the aesthetic I'm looking to approximate with it, always preceeds any urge to act on it. I'm not sure I can even imagine it otherwise.

Also, I'm very much a dabbler. DIY principles ask for versatility, and I find it rewarding. I'm starting to get pseudo-specialised in making wearable fashion items mostly because I really like adorning myself, but even those efforts utilise every tool, material and technique I stumble upon a little bit rather than a single or few with much professionalism.

I might start a sog on my bass, but I never write it down, so nothing happens there.
Last time I wanted to paint I couldnt be bothered to find any paint, so I drew in blood insted. I like how it turned out and I gave it to my friend for her birthday.
