    Default stem cell ban lifted

president obama lifted alot of the stops bush put down on stem cell research today which alot of people are excited about due to the possibilities of stem cells helping to cure diabetes, parkinsons and other ailments that have been almost impossible to cure as of late.

but with this lift also comes the controversy of stem cells coming from unborn embryos, the possibilities of it leading to cloning etc.

now, about a year ago, there was this guy in texas who was experimenting with lizard dna to regenerate amputated digits and limbs (seriously, i know that sounds like something out of spider-man but really.) and noone really seemed to have alot of flack about him using lizard genes he personally harvested but there always seems to be a hangup when it comes to things like unborn embryos who may never be developed into a child in the first place.

anyways, do you think obama went too far and that the ban shouldnt have been lifted or is this a good day for science?

i started liking him when he shut down guantanamo bay and got rid of the torture tactics notion to get information out of prisoners. i mean, we helped create the geneva code of conventions and proper treatment of pows theres no reason we cant enforce those rules when dealing with our own pows.

The embryos they are using were destined to be destroyed anyways. I think it's a good thing. Lots of good can come from it I think.

Good point. I honestly don't care, but then again I don't know anyone with any disease that scientists are looking to cure with stem cells and it's none of my business if a chick wants to abort a pregnancy.

that's not the only reason I'm on the fence about it. I know a lot of good can come from it. at the wnd of the day, I think it will do more harm than help. something about it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I'm totally against cloning, for one thing.

fuck it. I hate embryos. I hate fetuses too. And zygotes, fuck zygotes.

So yeah, I think stem cell research is just spiffy dammit.

...um, actually I kind of like fetuses. And babies, I think they're awesome. But that can't be allowed to interfere with my pro-death stance, so fuck fetuses.

well no worries there, theyre not gonna be cloning anyone with the stuff. obama lifted some bans but he clearly stated he doesnt want this reasearch used to clone people. but then again thats not to say that some egomad scientist wont try to do it i guess

yeah, but he said nothing about not cloning animals. especially the ones we eat. there are enough terrible things in meat they sell these days. whose to say they won't start cloning it? in my opinion, that would be a total disaster.

oic. yeah they didnt really get intot hat too much. people have been more hung up on a sixth day scenerio to really ask about sixth day beef or chicken and they've already been cloning sheep and dogs in other countries.

i guess we'll have to start eating vegeterian then if that day comes. it was actually kinda weird cus like the other day we were in an organic market and they ahd super chicken eggs in there which doesnt sound veyr organic to me.

    good point.

yep. give them an inch and they will take a mile. they will most likely use moralistic bullshit to do it too.
I'm not sure how pleased I am with obama. first the coal, and now this.

Hmmm, I'd be less worried about this if the FDA actually did anything about the food we have now.

You may have a point here... I don't think the original ban pertained to critter fetuseses did it?

Let's face it the wingnutz pro-lifers don't give a crap about chicken abortions, or beef clones.

nope. they're just more concerned about human babies not getting aborted.

vegetables are already genetically modified. they've been doing it for years. that's why you hear me talking about organic stuff a lot.

I guess I'm really not on the fence at all. in fact, i'll just come right out and say I'm flatly against it.

It's not so much what Obama's done up to this point, it's what those other two clowns would have done.

but yeah back on track.....i know what you mean by chemically altered fruits and veggies, voltaire, that's why i've been planning on putting together a little liberty garden in our backyard. maybe even turning one of the spare rooms into a hydroponic room so i can grow my own veggies and herbs (not weed but medicinal and seasoning)

cus i'd rather have home grown veggies than store bought cus even the organics can ahve problems due to famr workers not knowing how to wash their hands after going twosees-like the spinach thing.
