    Default Spelling Tests.

Well, I think they should keep Spelling Tests through out school, college, etc.

    What do you think ?

I think spelling tests are for instruction and as a tool for learning for elementary school mainly, to see a child's progression or stunting in the english vocabulary. If a child has problems with spelling issues later it would become more than evident to their teachers in their homework. I have never seen a spelling test in college.

I was a spelling goddess in early elementary school because I read a lot. I think I was pretty bad at almost everything else though, from dodgeball to multiplication. What would be the advantage of spelling tests later on, other than making me feel special?

The importance ranges from Minor to Major.

    Examples:

Minor: Some people spell Cat as Kat.

Major: Because of a single letter, somebody in a medical office might get a wrong type of medicine that has almost the same name, with some letters being slightly different, and could die as a result.

Those are kind of extreme, but both examples could happen.

I was picked to go to the spelling bee sponsored by Scholastic in our county for the elementary school. I picked up novels at about the age of 8 or so. I suppose this is why my spelling skills are quite good, although we all make mistakes of course.

i agree that spelling tests, however large or small, should be considered important and should be used in colleges and schools. many people leave schools and colleges unaware of how to spell words which apply to their learning but not to everyday life and this may have future consequences when helping their own children with learning to spell..

Considering the spelling disasters that happen on the internet, I'd say I'm pro spelling tests. I wouldn't care if we all would actually talk to each other, but since we're stuck to typing, spelling things right would help alot.

I keep getting asked to spell words for a lot of people in College. Spelling test should be a must beyond elementary school. That way I can't be asked all the time to spell things for others.
