I dig the music, but their lyrics are utterly dreadful. Especially if you start listening to their non-club hits too. It's nothing but the most obvious, simplistic and exaggerated variations of "I'm really evil!".

Agreed; the Crüxshadows' lyrics are a wholly different brand of stupid. They're romantic to the point of blatant absolutism, but very eloquent and evoke a lot of feeling. If you'd told me that a band that spiritual and morally preachy would make it into my top ten before I'd heard them I'd have laughed at you, but there they are.

Personally, as lyrics and that genre go, I really like Rotersand. Very meta, relativist, full of ironic self reflection without neglecting to have a real message or just be cool now and then, too. Songs like Meaning is the Drug, Content Killer and Exterminate, Anihilate, Destroy are great to counteract the hot-headed self-seriousness of the Cruxshadows.

I don't think that comparison is fair. There are rappers who can't sing about anything but how badass they are, but -can- manage to do it in ways complex enough to be interesting. (I like Tech N9ne, personally)

And lol, I downloaded that song just because it came up when I randomly searched for 'zombie' to see if I could find anything interesting. Songs not bad, don't think I'd bother trying to get anything else by the artist.

I'll second tossing VNV in the same category, but hold that neither of them are really deep. There's no real philosophy in either of their lyrics; it's all just the eloquent and elaborate description of humane sentiments and questions, without any logical insights into their mechanics or answers. Statements like "Do something with your life!", "Be an individual!", "Stand up for what you believe in" and "In the end, what's really important to us?" are appealing primarily by virtue of what they don't say.

Of course, there's a lot of charm in thoughts without answers and descriptions without a point. Songs that make a point always risk being found disagreeable by the listerener, while a question will appeal to everybody that's ever wondered the same thing.
