Default murderer hailed as hero over speed camera

okay, im not gonna be all news reporty on this just sayin what the new sis saying.
anyways, out here, there's a big gripe about photoradar cameras.

they're everywhere and people out here Love to speed, you can probably guess how they feel about these cameras.
anyway, ever since they were reinstated-they were originally an experiment in high traffic accident areas- there has been a shit load of protests ranging from 'they're unconstitutional" to "it's just another way for the government to siphon money out of our pockets."

and at first, these protests were just your basic angry people holding up signs kinda things....until a few days ago.

a very active protestor who has been very outspoken about the cameras decided to take it upon himself to shoot up a photoradar mobile van killing the operator inside.

now, if this wasnt bad enough, he has been being hailed a hero by some of the protestors out here who are against the photoradar cameras, one even going as far as to encourage eveyrone to get their gun and shoot up these vans and make it-as they said- "our own version of the tea party protests".

    how fucked up is that?

What the fuck? If you speed and get caught its your own damn fault for speeding! At least this way they warned you that they were out there. People are fucked up, this is no way to justify killing someone.

this state is full of people like that.

what sux even more but is kinda in the best interest of the people who operate the mobile ones is they've decided to pull almost all the mobile units in concerns of people actually going out and shooting them up. i understand the safety in this issue but it also leaves the impresison that all you gotta do is shoot up things to get your way around here.

while I don't agree w/ what happened, I'm at the same time surprised that no one has shot out the cameras that take your pic when you run a red light. I know for a fact that in l.a., that even if you go though a yellow, and it changes as the last half of your car is passing through the safe zone, city of l.a. will mail your ass a god damn ticket.

Whether they like it or not the cameras work reallllly good. Officers in our area started using them in certain high-accident parts of town and have had 80% fewer collisions.

yeah. that's why they made them a permanent fixture out here. they started out as a test near scottsdale a few years abck in some high accident areas and they dramatically decreased accidents over there.
and yeah, volt, i'm surprised they havent just shot up the cameras either instead of going for the vans like that. this state is crazy with weapons laws both guns and knives.

i think we might actually have more liberal laws on weapons here than in texas come to think of it.

on a new swing of things thuogh, being as the mobile vans are in actuality a private company under government contract -or two companies to eb more specific. one of the companies has decided they're not going to let some whackball protestor keep them off the streets and are planning on returning to their posts today.

If you ever get busted by those things, you should look up what the actual legal statute is. In some states, including ones that have such cameras, it is required that an officer issues you a citation in person so you have no legal responsibility to have to pay for those tickets, but people do anyway because they are ignorant of the law.

I think those things are unconstitutional, not only because they could violate privacy (inside of your car is private property), but because they are controlled by private companies that has no right to enforce laws and make money off judicial citations.

The red light cameras work really good when the people behind them really review the photos and actually weed out false positives and make sure the ticket goes to the correct car. Since the motive is profit, not safety and the there is little oversight, the intensive is to send out more tickets, not accurate tickets.

But that aside, a man was killed. That is not a statement, it's a murder. I am curious though, who is hailing this guy as a hero? I hadn't heard that part.

This is another case of putting your vote where your mouth is.

If so many people hate them, then vote to ban them.
If so many people hate speeding laws, then vote to change them.

Write your representatives, and tell them you don't like unfair
speeding laws, and speed traps, and if they support them,
they will not have your vote in the next election...

    That's how democracy works.
If enough people dislike something, you can vote to change it.

oh yeah. they were saying on the news tonight that the guy originally was claiming the shooting as an accident but there sbeen new evidence out now that proves he knew the guy who was shot wa sgonna be in the van and he shot at the van with the intent to kill the guy. the county attorney is planning on charging him with first degree murder as well as drive by shooting and unauthorized discharge of a firearm.

in other words, he's gonna be getting the book thrown at him for doing it.

oh. these arent red light cameras im talking about, these are speeding cameras.
they're set to go off if you drive past going over 11mph past the posted speed limit for the area.

most people out here go maybe five over and im guilty of that myself at times. (combat boots tend to weigh my feet down mroe.)

but yeah, they have a website for people who dislike the cameras and there were people in its message board hailing him a hero for killing the guy and even encouraging people to grab their guns and shoot up as many mobile speed camera vans as they could as hteir own verison of the "tea party" protests.

I'm pretty sure that everyone in the nation doesn't like speeding laws, but I've never heard of any getting turned down by public vote. As far as I know there isn't any city street with a speed limit of more than 50 (most seem to be between 35-45), and most highways are under 75 and none of them are over that.

    That statistic is suspect:

    http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/04/430.asp

etc. etc. ad infinitum, ad nauseum

While killing someone running a truck of these cams is certainly not acceptable, the cams are a disgusting and dangerous method of law enforcement designed primarily for revenue generation.

Meh. Government is a bunch of people that invent rules for you and enforce them through violence if you don't obey. Nobody owes them cooperation in the sense that protest and change should only be pursued through the limited and ineffectual channels they have laid out for you.

Besides, voting doesn't actually do shit. In the US it's even worse, cause there's only two parties to vote for, so you only ever get to 'deny your vote' to half of them. They can get away with screwing you over time and time again so long as you notice them doing it at least one time less than you do their opponent.

Yeah, but in CA, all you have to do is collect enough votes, and you can get a proposition added to the ballot. Like the one banning gay marriage. Enough conservatives got together, and got enough votes to put it on the ballot. So the same thing can go the other way. Enough liberals can get a measure on the ballot to legalize pot, or make gay marriage ok, or change the speeding laws... I just think the reality is that 75% of the "regular" people out there, even though they speed too, they worry about their kids getting run over, or people getting killed, and would not vote to raise the speed limits... But really, all you need is a bunch of signatures by registered voters, and you can get something added to the ballot. But you need a LOT of votes. Enough to prove that a large amount of people want this change to the law... And getting that many people to sign, is not as easy as you would think...

thats true. im always readint hroguh those ballot signature things when theyc oem up to see exactrly what its about. only problem is sometimes, most of the time actually, things get added on after it's been put on by special interests etc. i hate pork.

it would be nice though if they'd legalise pot. I'd be glazed like a donut all the time if it was.
