RE: Obama history... The dude has a serious connection to some pretty radical people. Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, his own father and mother (who said Jomo Kenyatta was a sellout)... Any cries of "socialist" (if not straight up communist, at least anti-colonialist) are NOT unfounded in the least. I have read both "Dreams From My Father" and "Audacity of Hope." You'd have to be a nosepicking retard not to see his political colors from his own writings, including a completely falsified story he supposedly read in Life magazine in 1968 about a black man who took pills to turn his skin white. (DFMF)

RE: Tea Party coverage... I lost faith in mainstream media during the 2008 election. I have never been a political person - didn't feel old or wise enough to deal with it seriously. But the way they covered Obama made me sick. Fox News was already in the gutter for me, so anything they said that was truthful raised my opinion of them a notch. MSNBC, however, who I had trusted since college, really let me down. Chris Matthews turned out to be nothing but a shill for the DNC and Keith Olbermann went way off the deep end. Jon Stewart, once the funniest man alive IMO, went the same route.

BTW, Forrest, I appreciate your comment on the concept of protest... How ironic is it that Jon Stewart holds a protest to protest the protesters? Aren't rebels SUPPOSED to protest the government, not hold pro-government rallies?? Goddamn postmodernism... I guess I just don't get the joke

Anyway, I haven't heard much about Tea Partiers lately anyway... Is it even still out there?

If Obama is a communist or socialist he is really, really bad at it. He is also not doing really well on the anti-colonialism front.

It is one of the things that crack me up when people criticize presidents of all stripes. They are always presented as insidious, unstoppable masterminds who are utterly incompetent.

They are even doing it with Palin. Sarah Palin, Super Geeenius!

But I stand by my earlier statement, the tea-party is getting the same treatment as most, and better than some. Ask anyone working for acorn about the Liberal Media, oh wait, no one works for them any more.

Discussing race. The most interesting aspect I've come across in my life in regards to discussing race is that it typically occurs among a bunch of whites who are happy to say whats wrong or right for all races.

As for the government, I have lost view on whos who. They all equally sicken me, they are all polititions. If it wasn't for the economy I would completely stay out of political conversations for the sake of my blood pressure. The greatest hope I see is that government doesn't have a controlling interest in the economy, Greed does, and we can trust greed to be a constant and unchanging aspect.

And as for the subject - I have a friend who goes to Tea Party stuff and while I consider him a flaming Republican, we can talk. My new mantra is: my side, your side, whoever's side - we are part of a whole.

What do you think about state aid to someone like me who is paranoid schizophrenic or my boyfriend who is a quadraplegic?

So true... And can I just point out that he constantly pointed out during the 08 election that Iraq was the "wrong war" but Afghanistan was the "right war"....? I think he would have said anything to get elected. If Bush had focused on Afghanistan and had never gone to Iraq, Obama would have said that Iraq was the right one... Or Sudan... Or Myanmar... Or ANYWHERE else, if only to differentiate himself as a candidate - not b/c it was really the right answer.

Medicare/Medicaid/Healthy families/etc..... It's cool for those who are truly in need. Americans tend to be very giving when presented with the choice of who to give to. We love giving to children. Old people. People who once worked hard, but got hurt or became ill and need help. People stricken by natural disaster. Veterans. Everyone else should be on their own. America used to be a country of true rebels.. People who reveled in their own uniqueness and made a life for themselves on their own terms. People who valued freedom and independence, even when faced with the consequences of such risk. When did we all suddenly become so dependent (and sooo trusting too!) on the government to run our lives for us? When did "helping people in need of medical care" become "state takeover of the entire healthcare industry"?

Um yeah... Unless you're black. Or brown. Or Asian. Or Native. Or Pashtun. Or you live and work and grew up with lots of people of different backgrounds. Believe me, black people are more than willing to discuss how they feel about race.

    Yep, we all have opinions.
And whether liberal or racist, people of any color, when talking about race generally have strong opinions. But being that whites have a shared background of being the "Man", a strong opinion may come across as authoritative. While in no way should this knowledge stifle dialogue its still good info to consider.

Depends who you're asking. White people have a reputation for having an inherently limited perspective on the race debate. Most people I know would consider them the least authoritative source of insight on the subject, insofar as race and authority entered into that at all.
