Since it is a physical impossibility for me to have children now, it's a moot point. My thoughts go along the lines of...

"Life is a Sexually Transmitted Disease. Men are the carriers and women are the sufferers. If you take precautions, you can stop it being caught by you. I have had surgery to prevent myself being a carrier, which suits me fine."

Is this relevant? My point does not require me to deny the existence of either.

You sound a bit defensive. We were talking about aesthetic; being pleasant to perception, both mental and sensual. Not about ending the world anywhere, although that's also a pretty picture.

In your example only the women has an object who’s primary significance is adornment. This speaks less of double standards and more of a difference in motivation between sexes.
It's not a competition exactly, and you cannot not participate in being perceived. Certainly you have the right not to care, but that doesn't keep a poor score from being relevant, and if you still expect people to interact with you it's kindof an asshole thing to neglect.

Somebody mentioned population growth. There's a video that I think everyone should see just to widen their perspective. It's a 10 minutes video from TED Talks by a fellow swede, Hans Rosling. http://wimp.com/populationgrowth/

Video he talks about in beginning can be found here -> http://www.ted.com/talks/hans_roslin...ever_seen.html

    Just a thought....

Life is not a gay porno mag. Tools are for work, not photo shoots. Apologies to our uber-creative hosts, Amelia and Forrest, who can use whatever props they like.

That is true, but on average, in a city like Los Angeles especially, people who are
attractive know they are attractive, and have gotten used to using that to their
advantage. In other words, manipulating the opposite sex to get what they want.
Be that love, money, attention, career opportunities, etc. They get used to the idea
that there are tons of rich men who find them attractive, tons of super-hot guys
who find them attractive, so they have the pick of any guy they want.

It's a lot easier to find women who don't know they are attractive in smaller towns,
and more remote areas. Because they haven't been in the big city and had their looks
compared to all kinds of other attractive people. In general, a lot of girls outside of LA
assume they are not attractive, because they think women here look like they do in
movies and magazines, and don't realize how much makeup and photoshop go into
making those people look so aesthetically appealing.

But if you live in a city like LA, NY, Paris, or anyplace with a lot of models, actresses,
etc, there is a whole different dynamic. Men and women who are attractive in these
places are there for a reason, and they know what they look like, and know how to
use that. Even the women in the "alternative" scene know who the hottest girls are.
So even in our "subcultue", there are minor celebrities, and people who are worshiped
and adored by fans and peers. So in general, that gives those attractive people an
ego. And to me, ego, and people who manipulate, are unattractive. I like someone
who I consider my equal. Someone I can talk to, create with, and get along with.
I don't like drama or manipulation. And in LA, I've found it hard to find super-attractive
women who lack drama and manipulative qualities. I am not saying they don't exist
elsewhere, or don't exist at all. But it's hard to find here. So over the years I have
learned that I prefer someone a little more "average" looking, but still attractive,
versus someone who is insanely attractive, but a huge ball of drama.
