    Default Favourite Songs

We each have a list of songs that for one reason or another stay in our heads. They can inspire us, understand us, or simply say what we never can. Whatever the reasons...share a few and if you're bold enough the reason why. Keep it on a SONG level...no favourite albums or bands...we've had those talks before.

I think you can learn a lot about a person by what songs they hold close. Plus at the very least you may expose people to songs they never would have listened to or glossed over.

    I'll kick it off...

Guns N' Roses - "Sympathy For The Devil" - Everyone heard it at the end of Interview With The Vampire and I gotta admit...I hated it. I just didn't think it was all that great...years later though I started to grow on me. Now it's one of those songs I have to listen to at stressful times or when I need to clear my head. It has such a fun energy to it and as much as some may see this as heresy...it surpasses the original Rolling Stones version...the lyrics pack more of a punch and the imagery created with the arrangement and vocals push it to a level the original creators never hit. The song always puts me in the frame of mind I want to be.

Tin Machine - "Tin Machine" - This David Bowie side project was one of his biggest gambles. He did old skool rock n roll at a time when NO ONE was doing it. Listening to the song (and album really) now does not have the same effect though I'd dare you to say it does not sound fresh and alive. The song always managed to keep my pulse up and pull me from what ever self created misery I tortured myself with. It's like an injection straight to the core of who I am and waking me up...a bit like taking massive amounts of sugar with ones expresso shots.

David Bowie - "Shapes of Things" - Anytime this pops up on my playlist I find myself daydreaming. It has a really good way of making me tackle a creative problem from a new angle...so it makes my playlist pretty regularly. Added to this is the fact it's jsut a fun song to listen too. It has such life and energy to it you can't really feel down, tired, or fatigued when you hear it...a perfect song for those after midnight work sessions that seem to drag on into forever.

More as I think of them, but:

    Raise Your Glasses- Inspires Confidence
    Eye Of The Tiger- Motivation
    Crazy Nights
    When Worlds Collide- The sound
    Welcome to the Jungle- Sound
We're not going to take it, anymore- Personal reasons.
    I- for confidence
Lick it up- Frame of Mind for a party
Heavens On Fire- To aggravate certain people.
There are lots more, probably too many to list and explain. I still have trouble with writers block.

And there's this really odd cover of "My Favourite Things" (you know the song from the Sound of music), and I don't know who it's by. Sounds a bit like Bad Religion.

And, of course, I Wanna Be Sedated by The Ramones.

Con te partiro - Bocelli He has an inspiring voice, and the song is nice and peaceful in a candle lit room!

Llorando - Mullholland Drive Soundtrack Very dark, another sitting in a dark, candle lit room, thinking about life, love or nothing at all!

Bang Bang (my baby shot me down) - Nancy Sinatra Something just moves me to love this song....Nancy is always good in general, but this particular song makes me feel powerful.

Turn the Page - Metallica This song reminds me of long car rides with my husband, and helps me think of the future and how life is always going to be a changing adventure.

Malaguena Salerosa - Chingon (from the Kill Bill 2 soundtrack) This one is just fun, songs that aren't sung in english have an exotic effect (I like Japanese lyrics as well)....I don't know, I just really like this one. (if you understand the language, it doesn't count for the exotic effect)

I actually like the Bob Seger version of Turn the Page better, but the Nancy Sinatra song is great.

You can't come up with the name because that song isn't by VNV Nation. It's "Once In A Lifetime" by Wolfsheim -- one of MY favourites!

Oh is it? A friend gave me a burnt CD with a some stuff on it and told me that track was VNV Nation. He didn't have the list with him at that point, so it was probably a minor mistake on his part. Thanks for clearing it up though.
