What are the best perfrormances you have attended. who's show was it that blew you away? who sounds 10X better live then what their CD captures.

For me, I have to say Thrice, Hopesfall, Poison The Well, Circle Takes The Square & Darkest Hour. (I don't even like Darkest Hour's recorded music, but they fucking were insane live)

Thrice, PTW, & DH were all in the same show. they put on a show to remember. I don't think I've had more fun in a single night. Hopesfall as spacey as their music is simpley stunning live. I mean it's just that much more real & words can't explain the sound. CTTS poetic as they are, it's the music that brings them to life so well. their performane was like you were in a whole new world. Storm/Silence...Storm/Silence...Storm/Storm/Storm...

Also Avril Lavigne sounds so much better live then on CD (if you can believe that)

Jesus and Mary Chain/Mazzy Star, Bauhaus, VAST .... all for different reasons. I've been fortunate to have seen, set up, or did sound for a lot of great shows. I would not limit it to just those bands.

Some of the best shows I've been to were the ones the local bands used to put on. It was something obscenely cheap like $5 to see three to five bands play (though the opening act usually sucked). They always put a lot of energy into their performances and you could tell they were all having a good time, and the atmosphere was such that it was pretty hard not to enjoy yourself too. No security to speak of either, so you could get away with stuff like stagediving without being dragged out.

    AC/DC -- cannons indoors!
    Aerosmith
    Janes Addiction
    The Misfits
    GWAR

Like TheWalkingGlitch, there are a number of smaller shows, heck A LOT of smaller shows, I really enjoyed over the years, but this is the list of bands I've found to really kick it up a notch over album/CD performance with what they do live.

Smashing Pumpkins off of Gish at the Ritz!!! I only went to that show cause it was $5 and a female freind of mine asked me to take her. They were amazing. Way above anything they ever recorded.
White Zombie.... also at the Ritz (opening for Testament). Between the energy and the stage set, I thought I was caught in an acid trip.
Ministry (w/ Sepultura and Helmet/ Orlando Sports Arena) 2 hrs of barely contained insanity.
Slayer.... (pick one, Ive seem em too many times to count). Even now, they continue to destroy each and every stage they stomp onto. These guys have got to be in their 40's, and still play like they're in their early 20's. Theve been doing the entire "Reign in Blood" album as their encore lately!!!

one of the best shows was LOC -even though it was the worst show. the sound sucked, the band got into a fight and walked off stage, the lead singer was drugged out of his mind, fighting with the sound guy, and security tried to throw him off stage, which led to the fans jumping onstage and fighting with security, the crow rioting agaisn't the venue... but it was fun. and LOC got back togther a week later and played a free show in tompkins square park (up by avenue A) which led to cops trying to break it up, and yet another riot breaking out agaisnt the police... ah, gotta love that crack rock steady beat.

i wish i got to see them... unfortunately i saw rob zombie as the second to last band to play at ozzfest one year and frankly i was severly dissapointed... his vocals sucked the bands antics where boring and i was to far away to see the dancers on anything other then the jumbo screen which was shakey...

great bands live: judas priest, primus , macey gray, hatebreed, system of a down, lit, mighty mighty bosstones, dave matthews and a few others i can't remember offhand (working security for a few years had me seeing way to many concerts some suprissingly good shows of bands that performed amazingly but would otherwise never pay to go see...and some awesome bands that i love their music but will never pay to see again)

hmmm well my most recent one... god damn it was fucking awesome... besides my neck collapsing under about 200 pounds from someone crowd surfing.

    On tuesday I saw...

    Himsa
    ARCH ENEMY
Bleeding Though <= they suck live IMO
    and..
    Cradle of Filth

Arch Enemy owned the f*ckin stage.
Himsa opened, seeing as it was their home town
Bleeding Through... sucked so much... they were disappointing..
Cradle of Filth is FUCKING INSANE. They also pwned the stage.
