Hey, I've reached a hundred posts. This means I get a Blue Blood T-shirt. Better have some new designs made 'cause I already hooked me up with the existing ones.

What are some of y'all's favorite comic book/RPG artists? Some of my favorite artists who have contributed to Blue Blood clothing designs are James O'Barr, Eric Dunn, and Trevor Brown. Who else would be good to get a T-shirt design from?

Aaron Boardner. He did a comic book mini-series from Sirrus(?) called "Kreeky Playground". It's interesting, but I like the art better.

He's also from Ohio, like me.

Off the top of my head, and at least somewhat content-appropriate: Dave McKean, Bill Sienkewicz, Darick Robertson, Mike Mignola

Of the creators still active and trying new things Frank Miller will always be one to watch. Though his DK2 was less than amazing his work in the last 10 years has matched his early work in many ways...from his Sin City series to 300 and assorted one shots and mini series.

Steve Dillion and Gath Ennis are always make fun work to read. Though lately the stuff both have made is not as eye catching.

Milo Manara is always worth a look...when he actually has a story to tell anyhow.

Masamune Shirow continues to push digital art in areas few have the talent or knowledge to venture.

Abuli & Bernet continue to inspire..even with work nearly a decade or more old (Betty By The Hour and Torpedo 1936 being prime examples)

Frank Cho is a favourite...though like every other artist one curses his insane level of talent with each story and pin up he produces. It wouldn't be so bad if he wasen't such a gifted story teller as well.

Alex Toth ...granted his work is less known and much is in animation circles but his use of B&W is still studied by just about anyone serious about comic art...and those wanting to learn or read visual stories done right. His Zorro run being his best example.

Of the current crop... kinda hard to tell since so much of the stuff made now lasts a few issues at most...it's hard to see what artists have the real talent to tell stories and which are just glorified pin up artists. Still...with guys like David Mack, Darick Robertson, and good ole Matt Wagner still around...there are many good things to come.

If you had to get a T-Shirt design...I'd check out Joe Linsner. He has a great eye for pin ups and character designs.

He's one of the more original artists to come down the pipe...the one critique that was leveled against him is his storytelling ability...his style worked well to tell Kabuki...and in for his Daredevil run (when he was working with other writers)...but he has really yet to prove if he can take his art style into other levels and styles of storytelling...I'd be interesting to see him do say a Hellblazer story since he could totally pull it off...Superman would be great since that character needs new interpretations...fast. Elements of his Daredevil run really showed possibilities in what he can do with Heroes.

Maybe he is not interested in comics of that nature.. I know the reason I was drawn to Kabuki was because it was not like all the others...This may be a poor analogy but...it would maybe be like asking some hardcore punk rocker to play waltz music or something..(perhaps the musician can respect it ..but this doesn't necessarily mean he wants to try and emulate it for his audience)...I think David Mack is brilliant ...he was the second artist that made me interested in comics...and I think I would be a little dissapointed to see him do something like 'Hell Blazer'..that is unless he could make it MORE interesting to those of us who are not usually interested in those types of comics. After all it's his art..he is representing and giving the readers something of himself...I wouldn't want him to be like other comic artists..it sets him apart....just my thought on why I think that critique seems a little harsh.

Is there a place where we can see the old Blue Blood t-shirt designs?
I guess I haven't really taken a look around...maybe I can find some all by myself .huh.

Frank Miller rocks. His book Hard Boiled (along with Geoff Darrow) is great.

See what you left out though is a key word no artist should forget...challenge. It's great when an artist has something unique to share...like Mack's Kabuki...but if that's ALL they ever do it can get old really fast. He's managed to keep Kabuki fresh though by changing it up and evolving it with his own style. Kabuki if you remember was born during the whole "bad girl" craze. The reason I mentioned Hellblazer is because it's very much like his Daredevil run...only much darker and in the right hands...without equal. Superman and any mainstream heroic Icon has proved to be a way to measure a comic artists skill...for a comic artists it's like going up agaisnt the best of the best...seeing how you stack up against the legends and contemporaries in an equal playing field. When Mack did daredevil it was clear he had serious skills in the superhero genre...while it was far from the Miller run...it was one of the best the title has had.

Those titles (Batman, Superman, Spider-man, etc.) are great places for artists to compete and leave a lasting mark on something with deep history. Done right those titles reignite entire generations of readers...Jim Lee is doing that right now with the big DC titles...and I honestly think Mack could take an established hero like say Superman and make something very new and exciting.

Wether he wants to is not really the point...it's about personal challenge and chance. With so few artists wanting to do that...so many chosing to play it safe for very valid and important reasons...it's nice to think and dream about the possabilities an artist who LIKES to tak chaces can do.

It's what makes the Great artists great after all...

It sucks that the sequal never materialized...Darrow has been doing storyboards for the matrix films in what feels like forever...he needs to crank out a new project. I miss his hyper detailed oversized books. If you ever want to see some cool pinups he did hunt down old issues of the anthology Cheval Noir...some of his oddest work is in those books as mini posters.

J.J. Muth always has such hauntingly emotional work...it's very dreamlike without being delibrate.

Preacher is my all time favourite...Dillion and Ennis outdid themselves with that title...

You should read their Hellblazer run...amazing stuff. Some even better than their Preacher work.

Ah yes...Sam Keiths lil book that could. The Animated Series really helped this book reach new audiences. Oddly enough the animation team behind it later went on to have a big hand in Futurama.

I still think Squee ( I Feel Sick in close second) was Vasquez's best work...even though when it came out no one bought it and it took practicly a fucking decade for it to see print again.

I'm rather fond of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac myself.
"Hey kid, where do you keep the Bactine? Some of this blood is mine!" Poor Squee, I think the name alone counts as child abuse.

I like Mike Alfred (Madman and an awesome version of DC's Death), Mike Mignola (Hellboy) and Bill Sienkiwickz (did and awesome Delirium story, as well as Thor and Superman). But, I like all those guys from the 40s too. I wish the Matt Baker was still alive. One of the best artists ever. Check out his cheese cake still with Phantom Lady (very old school Betty Page) and others!

MacRaboy was really good (Capt. Marvel Jr.), but like most of those guys, dead before the 70s. (Nerd guns set to high!)
