it's not a lot of fun, being knocked to the ground by some asshole in a speeding SUV who can't be bothered to slow down at an intersection. trrrrrrrrust me. i crawled home and spent the next week very close to the ground.

i don't mean to de-rail the thread, but do y'all think this could have been avoided if there had been security cameras plastered all over the place? i imagine, sometimes, in my less lucid moments, that accountability would stop a great many crimes.

the problem with having a zero percent crime rate IE: a police state where you have no privacy is that some things should be legal unconditionally, some things that are illegal shouldn't be, and it's debatible whether or not the federal government has the authority to decide what is right and wrong and enforce that and utlimately have control over the lives of everyone. if you think these things are relevent issues to consider, they are thrown out the window in such a system. it's called nazi germany. you seem to forget that not every single law in place is for the protection of the innocent and to stop people from hurting each other. if the government had a system where no one could get away with a crime, then they could criminalize anything they wanted to and the people would be powerless to stop it. it's not paranoid thinking, it's been done berfore in every country that's commited genocide and human rights violations.

My condolences for your lost. I recently had to break the news about the 5th friend many of us on the Bay Area scenes have lost over the past 6-7 years. It's a tough rite of passage that we all must face.
