I've been on this site for a day. But It already has some hiccups that bug me.

One being that I can't PM anyone. Maybe this is just a permissions setting. Same way goes for viewing the Member list. Along with various other Features of VB being disabled for... some reason.

And it's a little annoying to set a forum or all the new posts as read. Along with the fact that even though I've read a new post, it still registers as new. Which could very well just be a VB error.

And there isn't anything that says this is VBulletin, even though it is. Is that... legal? It probably is, I'm just used to script makers being very anal about removing copyrights.

Otherwise though, it's nicely themed to match this site. I just wish it was a bit easier to use.

I should have (would have) sent this to the head honcho, but PM's are disabled (at least for me)

well, just my $.02, not that it matters. Esp. when you have a bunch of gorgous girls running around on here!

well....i think we should upgrade to fully modded phpBB 2.0.15. ya get everything from karma points, games, more advanced word sensors, abilty to embed audio / video in posts, shoutbox / chatroom, easy forum and thread pruning.... ya just cant beat it, plus it's cheap and easy to admin. just my 2 cents

wow...did u really start 7 threads in your first few hours here?

Eh, phpBB is just so... typical. There are a variety of other solutions that I think do a better job.

I use SMF on Qdork.com, since it allows for forums with in forums and some other features. All in all, I'm happy with it.

Perhaps another Script could work. I've seen several light weight scripts that I would have loved to have used, if I didn't need forums within forums for my site.

VB ain't bad, from what I've seen. But it costs $$, and I'm cheap. Still, I guess it depends on what version and what the admin sets as enabled or disabled.

Aye, i suppose I did. I don't mean to flood the place, but I think if I'm going to join a community, I should bring something to the table. And giving people something to respond to is at least one way of doing that.

It's not that bad. I have members on my site who achived a post count of 1500+ within 3 months.

Forrest is in charge of scripts, but I take a dim view of people trying to reverse engineer anything on any of our sites. I assure you that as both an artist and a writer and as the daughter of an intellectual property attorney, I am very careful and very sensitive to copyright issues and what is acceptable use under whatever license Blue Blood purchases for anything on any Blue Blood site.

The personal messaging system is going to be upgraded. It has been sort of halfway through an upgrade for some time, but, as we provide this site for free, sometimes what I want to do for this site can't take priority no matter how much I might wish it could.

I may not always have the budget to do everything I would like to, but I think coders should be compensated for what they create.

Who said anything about reverse engineering? I'm not familair with VB so much. I just know a lot of scripts hate when you remove their copyright. But Maybe VB is ok with it, I haven't checked, so I can't say.

I know what it's like, since I run my own community as well. I've got jobs that specifically pay for keeping the site up. But sometimes I run out of time in the day to do any sort of work or upgrade on QDork, and I feel bad about it.

It's a nice little community. I just wanted to note that there are a few things that I get snagged on, even as a super web user and all.

I'm a member of a few other forums with all sorts of great features...but it comes down to the people and content at the end of the day...not the software package. Plus to be honest a lot of features tend to go unused or become doorways for spammers...in some cases certain features are taken out delibrately like the chatroom/shoutbox and rightly so.

I've had no issue with the style and format of the forum up to this point and while it would be interesting to see more advanced features become available...it's just not all that needed at this point...

I agree entirely. The people are what make the site, not the site itself. I've always believed that.

But things like PM's, and marking all new posts as read (or at least having it remove posts from the "new posts" list once you've read them) are sort of, basic. Almost needed.

I agree keeping it simple is a good idea, as a lot of features are wasted. and sometimes confuse people.

Yeah like Amelia said the PM's are getting an update and all...but since this is the free site of the BlueBlood family it takes the lowest priority since the pay sites need so much attention and updates...and I can't really blame Forrest & Amelia for wanting to exercise his creative muscles over oh so fun scripting : D

I'm sure the PM issue will be done before the new year...if not...oh well...we'll have to take solace in looking at the images of beautiful naked hotties.

If you have read a thread and there have been no new posts to the thread since you read it, the title will no longer be in bold. Unbolding is how threads are marked as read. Hope that helps.

This thread is kind of bothering me because I think I made myself clear and I don't think the specifics of a deal Blue Blood has with a particular coder or developer are anyone's business.

I'm going to start a new thread about board features, as what people want there is of interest to everyone.

Solace in looking at images of beautiful naked hotties?

I'd preffer to lay in some of their laps and bite their tummies. or wrestle them. Only a select few, though.

    Some day...

Well I don't mean to go and push anyones buttons. and I'm not trying to step on shoes.

Maybe a guide to using this site would help, like what each of the stars mean next to a post and stuff.

Don't be too bothered by it and all...it's not like any of this annoys people or detracts from the place. I think it's just that so many get use to forums with 1001 lil things to press and use that it becomes expected...until you realize how useless 99% of it is or how it's just window dressing.

is it wrong that her being bothered by this, bothers me?

I don't know. Maybe it's out of self-something. I don't mean to cause any trouble or anything, and I didn't think my post was a bad thing.

But I'm pretty sure i was within reasonable bounds... So I'm not too worried about it.

Meester fox, there is a guide to using the site at the link which is called FAQ. I'm not saying that your goal is to in any way rip Blue Blood off, but the fruits of my labors have been stolen from me way too many times for me to be comfortable when someone starts asking nuts and bolts questions about any of my sites. I'm really really not cool with you implying that anyone at Blue Blood would rip off a coder, especially when I stated clearly that, unlike many people, I think coders should be compensated for their labors. Repeating yourself on that point, after you had already been answered clearly, is at best just fishing for information which is nobody's business.

Once you hang out here a bit longer, I think it will become obvious to you where some of the Blue Blood head honchos fall on issues of intellectual property. Hint: it is not on the side of information wants to be free.

I'd be pleased if you would like to post feature requests in this thread.

beat ya to it :-p I think i was the first to reply to it. or... maybe second.

Well, Don't worry. I'm not trying to steal anything. I have enough website projects to handle... i don't need another. Especially one that isn't my own.

and I wasn't implying on ripping off a coder. I mean, I didn't mean to mean that. VB is a script you buy. (at least I'm pretty sure it is) so they're getting their money, which is probably why they wrote it anyway. Maybe it's just OS scripts that get annoyed about removing their little thing at the bottom... I don't know. I'm not a legal genius.

Well, I didn't mean any harm. I get myself into bad situations, but I'm not trying to... well do anything. If anything, let you guys know what I'm getting stuck on, which I (hopefully) explained in the feature request thread. But knowing me... I did as lousy job of it.

When i was younger i used to brute force porn sites for people that requested them..gothicsluts and all the sites that amelia and forrest have done were requested numerous times but i never touched them because i love the work they do so i figured the people that wanted the free passwords should buy a freaking membership! i dont do that stuff anymore because nowadays i understand the value of a dollar so people should get paid for what they host.. so i can understand where amelia is comming from

I got VB free with one of my hosting plans. It is included in a lot of plans with the fantastico script bundle. I saw no warnings vis a vis alterations to a given board. I get a lot of articles and images via an agreement with the Action Ukraine Committee on my sites. There are times where you may be unsure of the legality of reproducing all or portions of a given article. On several occasions, I've simply removed articles from my blogs. As to this forum, I think they do a great job. It's a lot more difficult and time consuming than one might imagine. The only banners I would exchange here would be without compensation. This site gets enough traffic that it's silly to split the compensation (imo)
The pming was fraught with annoyances, but I do hope it comes back eventually.
