It depends on your definition of real.. I mean if you drop acid and you go into a haunted house.. are the actors really trying to kill you, or are you just a person having too much fun?

Maybe some time soon we will email everybody and remind them to stop by and say howdy.

    LIEK, forums are sooooo 1990.

I've worked with this problem for years (some of us are paid to do really unimportant things) and it's not specific to BB by any means. When Web 2.0 was first floated, forum sites were so bleeding-edge Web 2.0 that it hurt. Now, they're firmly 1.0 in a 2.5 world. Don't get me wrong - I love this place and the people on it (well, the ones with a brain) - but reading text threads is boring to most youngsters. It's SLOW. To paraquote a focus group we had last year:

"Like, you say something, and like, you wait for like, a DAY to get a reply. It's like, so not like poking their myface iphone widget..."

BB, and the other forum sites where (God forbid) people use text to communicate, offer a place for conversation where the participants need a little bit of (a)patience and (b)intelligence. You have to interpret what people say. Unfortunately the Modern Young Person expects instant gratification and full-width access. They ask a question and want an answer NOW. They also want to know precisely where you're standing while you reply, what music you're listening to, what 'mood' you're in, and if you take more than 20 seconds to say something, then DAMMIT you'd better have some new photos in your gallery to keep me amused, or I'm fcking off to poke someone who cares. I have 10,000 friends and one of them will be damn well interested in me if you're not.

I don't mind Myface.. indeed was dragged into using it recently and didn't need therapy or anything. I use AIM. I use the phone. I even have a webcam... somewhere. But I also use email. I fax. I even write "letters". I like thoughts, and the people who take the time to share theirs with others. I care not what's playing on your iPhone, I care about what's playing on the person carrying it.

It'd be a shame if BB evolved into another Myface monster, as what it offers is an escape from all that. We don't provide a support group for a single topic, we just talk about 'stuff'. Sometimes that can be boring for some of us. Sometimes it's not. Patience is required, and that, like chivalry, is becoming a character flaw in the eyes of the next generation.

    A-fucking-men to that.

I find that my sixty thousand SNS friends on any given site just fill me with despair. Like I know there are people on those friends lists who I would find really interesting. But the forms of interaction in the SNS world tend to either bore me or bum me out. Or both. I mean, I know a lot of people who are furious with one another over who did or did not have who in their "top" friends. And, if seeing somebody on there is not something I want to do, I'd better leave them on there or else they will freak out at not being on the ginormous list of interesting people I will probably never learn anything new about.

Maybe we can commission some really cool rocking chairs. I really can tell if a storm's a-comin' by the pain from old wounds in my knee and ankle.

I get round that by having an extremely short friends list. People don't know how to react - they can't understand if I'm unpopular, or a stalker, or a freak. Course the really worried ones are the people who make it onto the list in the first place.

    ignore the troll, people.

i have my friends on the internet, hell most of the friends I HAVE met IRL i still talk to on the internet. hell Tim and I are usually in the same room and have IM porn battles. (thank you BB, you are always my ace in the hole.)

But yeah, there are a few people, like my friend in NY that i've never met, but we watch Bones together. Or we used to when i was on the east coast. now we have weekly conversations where we geek out over our tv shows and chat about our respective RPG's. it's nice to have friends that you can contact at the touch of a button for ideas and advice.

We need a BB Forums dog.

I'd like something big enough to roughhouse with and on the furry side.

We're all showing up slowly... hehe... I miss Mmmcherry too,
she always cracked me up.. but she's been ignoring me and
my IMs for about a year now. Muse and I were waiting for the
invite to her super moving sale, but never heard anything and
the relocation must have went well, still see her and Raven
pop on and off the IM daily. Must be I'm persona non grata.

i miss everyone and i don't even know them.
you know i like forums and such so much better than anything else. it takes the pressure off.
i refuse to use IM type things. i only text only people i know "in real life."
and myface (i like this word) thing friends are all people i don't know or porn or bands and shit. so i don't have any of that "you like so-and-so more!" (although i had that happen on model mayhem.... a *close* friend of mine put someone first and me second and it actually really hurt me.... then i felt stupid. but it still hurts. fuck it.)
    i'm anti-social.
forums mean i can disappear when i want. for entire days even.
