    Default Trip to L.A.

So, I'm planning on going to L.A. for a couple of weeks in October. Partly to visit with a friend, partly to try and find an agent, partly to audition for things and partly to find people to interview/photograph for my documentary.

So while I'm down there, I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to go and what to do.

So, it's just under a month before I go and I'm still looking for places to go and people to meet.

Tourguide is a hard gig for people I know. After you been here for a while you take everything for granted. I guess I can throw out a few things that I still look forward to.

Get a Tommy Burger. It will break up the LA image very nicely. While enjoying the Tommy Burger (with chili for god's sake) pick up an LA weekly and have a look. All my good adventures seem to start there even if we never end up doing what is in the book.

If you are there on the first saturday of the month, get your friends to drag you to santa ana. They have an artist villiage there and that is sometimes kinda dull, but sometimes really reall fun. It's a gamble, but when it is a hit it is worth the drive.

I know there is other stuff to do in the town, but it is one of those things you think of when it happens, so it is hard to give advice. I am getting old and lazy on top of that, so any info I got is quickly falling out of date. I remember wumpskate being some goofy fun, and I think we have some clubs or something down here.

Why not start by narrowing the field? Give us a few ideas of what you are looking for. Otherwise I am going to recomend Griffith park (which is closed) and disneyland.

Well, I know I'm going to try and head out to Bar Sinsiter a couple of nights. Maybe meet a few people who might be interested in my documentary and maybe participating in it (I'm nearly done with interviews, but could use a few more. Also, I need several models to pose for photos.) Wondering if there are other places to go to meet other such people. BTW, my documentary is on Goth/alt erotica.

Also, where to look to find out where open auditions are being held. Maybe find out which agencies are having 'open door' days while I'm down there so I can get a chance to talk to some talent agents.

Touristy things I plan on doing at the moment are watching a taping of Craig Ferguson and/or Jay Leno. Maybe do some studio tours. Other than that I'm wide open.

If I'm really lucky, I'll be busy auditioning, interviewing, filming and shooting photos that I won't have enough time to do the touristy things, but realistically I know that is not going to happen.

Thanks for the Tommy Burger suggestion. In another forum I've asked this question, I ended up with a list of about 12 taco trucks I was recommended to eat at. I'm going to get fat(ter) on this trip. I just know it.

OO! On Sunday night go down to the monte christo and dance your heart out a Malediction Society (http://www.maledictionsociety.com/society.php)(even if it's jsut for me).

10-13 is the Das Bunker 10th anniversary where VNV Nation will be doing an "old skool" set. (http://www.dasbunker.org/index.php)

SKIP Bar Sinister. Bad crowd from my experience. Go to Perversion instead (better crowd, better djs, better venue, better bar tenders) (http://www.evilclubempire.com/news-detail-01.html)

And Tuesday, for Gits and Shiggles hit PSK (pornstar karaoke) http://www.sardosbar.com/index1.html

I know there's more. After I've had sleep and coffee I'll post 'em.

    K the homesick

I'll look into Perversion. I'm there for two weeks, so I can give it and Bar Sinister a try.

    PSK sounds incredibly fun.

Not much of a dancer, but will look into Malediction Society and have a drink for you there.

Waiting to hear more of your suggestions.

Some shopping may be do-able. But, I make no guarantees.

OOH! Little Tokyo! ( http://www.experiencela.com/Adventures/LittleTokyo.htm ) One of my favourite weekend spots. damn I can't remember the name of the place but above the one big grocery store, on the second floor is this AWESOME little hole in the wall Ramen house. BEST FOOD! Decor leaves alot to be desired but the food more than makes up for it. Finding it shouldn't be too hard, just park at the one promenade and the other is walking distance. There's also a great book store at the top of the stairs there, too.

    oh what else... lemme think...

I've only eaten at the Grand Lux in Vegas and didn't care for it, but it was in the wee hours of the morning.

Love the Stinking Rose though, cheesy late night vampire ads and all. I order delivery from there often. Mmmmmmmmmmmm, garlic dungeoness crab.

There's a Stinking Rose in LA? I've eaten at the one here in SF a couple of times. I love the food.

    Grand Lux is AWESOME!
Great drinks, great food, reasonable prices...
I have never gotten food there that sucked.
    You should try it again.

And yeah, there is a Stinking Rose in LA.
It's yummy, but the people around you the next day will be suffering
    from your garlic stench!
