Thailand has had a military coup, a general took over the government buildings, while the primeminister was here in new york.

That must be why secrity at the base is so high. Everyone is wearing flak jackets, kevlar head gear, and packin M16's. I even saw a grunt maning the 50cal in the bunker. This mourning everything was cool then tonight it was like war.

From what I've read, it was a bloodless coup, but tourists have been advised to avoid gathering in large groups, just in case. I wouldn't worry too much. Someone I work with was over there visiting her ex-pat son during Tsunami at Christmas, and we didn't know what had happened to her. She was fine, and she'll probably be visiting her son again.

I just got word that they are waiting things out in Japan. Many flights have been cancelled do to the coup. Who know maybe my slacker brother will get drafted into the army since he planned to stay in the states to dodge the minmum 1 year army service
