Goth-izing a vehicle.

Maybe I'm just insane (actually, I know I am), but even though I know nothing about fixing or customizing cars, I've been really interested in getting my hands on an old ambulance (late 40's - early 60's) to fix up and customize into a vehicle I can tour the film festival circuit with when I complete my documentary.

I kinda have an idea of what I'd like to create, but I have no idea how to start. Including where I could find the vehicle.

Suggestions? Questions? General observations about life?
