Thread: digging in the dirt

    Default digging in the dirt

I have a 10'x10' plot in a community garden near my house. I've only spent about 4 hours in it so far this season, pulling out last year's turnips and clearing the weeds. Within the next week or so, I plan to dig in some compost, build raised rows and start seeding. Onions, carrots, cabbage, spinach, shelling peas, okra, kohlrabi. Some flowers, to bring the pollinatin' bugs. Some herbs. Tomatoes and peppers and maybe corn, when it gets warmer.

Does anyone else here garden? Grow your own food? Got big plans for the season?

Thought about creating a deadly flora garden for awhile. Hemlock, Nightshade, Poisonous mushrooms and a few non poisonous but fun plants like venus flycatchers and pitcher plants.

Maybe when I'm out of the dorm.

I've got green thumbs for every finger and toe...
I grow orchids as well as garden stuff. I havent been able to get in the dirt this yr, but I love it with a passion.
Hey Amelia, see many freaks with a flower fetish?
Gosh I'd love to incorporate that into a themed photoshoot.
    Not in the classic sense....
But in a faux sexual way. Orchids esp are notorious for appearing as genitalia, and lure their pollination partner, by appearing as another insect, and they try to mate with the flower.
    its crazy.

I could talk plants, all day.I had close to 75 orchids, but I couldnt make it back to Ky with them all intact...(I love my orchids like some people love their dogs)
So my collection is narrowed down to around 10.
    etc etc etc....

The soil here is too toxic to grow anything.

I will do some container gardening.

I'd like to this year. Will have to check the soil behind my house. It looks like the thaw is forthcoming. I love the dirt. I remember digging out a basement with my Grandpa. Every time we went up there, there would be a new project. Was great.
