Default Do You Have A Kilt?

I am thinking about getting a kilt, from the Anderson tartan... There are so many tartans to choose from! Have you ever looked at all the different tartans for the different clans? It is mind boggling...

And it is not really very expensive to have a kilt made with your own family tartan... I still want to stay in a haunted Scottish Castle...

That's interesting, I am of Scottish descent.
I'm not sure if I'm into getting a kilt, but I'm sure you'd be lovely in one.

Well they have these mini kilts which are kind of cute, you can wear them with boots... If you are of Scottish descent you should look up your tartan on the kilt website, it is kind of fun. There are so many tartans for your family name. kiltstore dot net

Anderson has about 20 different tartans...

Thanks hun, I really like the idea of the mini kilt. I'd like to see my dude in a kilt too... I've ALWAYS had a fantasy of him in a kilt, with the easy access and all... He has Scot in his ancestry as well, more dominantly so than me.

Thanks for bringing this thread up. I truly LOVE your profile pic btw. I always have.

Maternal Grandfather was Scottish. I looked up the standard tartan first. Found out, I could wear 10-15 different styles based on origin. We have a really cool family crest as well. I went to my first Tartan Day (celebrated on the anniversary of the Declaration of Albroath on 4/6 this year.). It's not my majority ethnicity, but I am the direct descendant of a Reiver Clan in Southern Scotland.

    I don't have a kilt though... <.<

But I've got a skirt-ish thing made of ties that looks like a rainbow-coloured piwakawaka tail.

I have never worn a kilt of any sort. My family tree is a little bit of a mystery to me though, so I really have little idea about it's appropriateness.

Don't have one no. I have one of the designs picked out though. I would have to have it custom made. One step at a time?

    tartan...

19th century marketing idea to cash in on the rise of interest in the celts, occult, and general supernatural stuff.

being welsh, we have a kilt, though i know thats a 20th century marketing idea as the celts of the southern parts never wore kilts. they had horses

Hi Buster! Yes there was a cute latex mini kilt for girls, but they only had it in size 12 and it was grey.... I will keep searching.... In honor of my kilt search and discussion, I have opened another Guinness....

Do you have pics? I would love to see your kilt and tattoo. Yes the cheapo mini kilts custom made with your own tartan are about 200 US dollars, but the real kilts are about 400. I think it would be nice to have both...

Have you ever been to Whitney Court in Wales, or near there? It is near Hay on Wye, on the Wye River. That's where Whitney castle stood, well, actually it was in the river, because the river moved. My ancestral castle on my mother's side...

I want to get a kilt one day, my great grandmother was Scottish, my middle is from her, Campbell. Don't know which Tartan I would get, my cousin had the kilt and knew all about her but I only met him a couple of times and he died several years ago. I must ask my Aunt's and find out more.

Latex kilt, very cool. Here is a shot I took of a guy I met at last year's Montreal Fetish Weekend. He had a latex Scottish outfit.
I want to go to Scotland one of these days.

At least the "kilts" that are poular these days are, and as far as I know the celts didn't wear them but I could be wrong on that. But I do know that most of the kilts I've seen people wearing are mostly a school girl skirts that men are alowed to wear. A true kilt is just a huge peice of wool ment to be used for many purposes like sleeping under and having pantless picnics on the moores. What makes it a kilt is more the method of wapping and pinning it on your body. Before that it's just a blanket. I never have worn one, but I have many sarrongs I wear throughout the summer. I guess only one of them was made to be a sarrong, the others are just cool peices of fabric I took out of our fabric closet and wrapped around me. Keeps my man parts from getting stuffy, and the wife says it's sexy as hell.

I used to wear a lot of pleated skirts, but never any kilts. I do love a good plaid.

I searched for my family tartan on my dads side, which would be Buchanan.

I don't really like the plaid, nor do I like the "alternatives" they have.

It was fun to make, but the ties all had different densities and my machine kept chewing on them...

At first I assumed they tasted good, or were simply fun to masticate. o___o

I love guys in kilts though (or any kind of skirt really). Back in the day we had declared every other Tuesday 'kilt tuesday' down at Trasheteria. Lotsa drunken flashing going on there Good times.

Actually had a truck driver loading in one of the dance shows I was on crew for who had that tatooed on the back of his big bald head. Huge guy. Appherantly very devoted to the one that he was wearing.

I have English, Irish and Scottish blood and so that means I appare tly have a few different tartans!
My folks got a tie and a blanket from a shop about ten years ago ade up in our tartan, and they weren't all that expensive. A kilt would be awesome, but our tartan is a bright blue with a fire engine red, so it'd sure stand out more than the traditional colours!

The Old Scotsman, who was well known for being tightfisted even for a Scotsman, surprised his three sons when he told them he'd give them a sum of money each, provided they got something tartan with it.

"Kin a' hae twenty poond, fer a tartan bonnet?" asked the first, and though it was a modest request, it was a lot to ask the old man, and to his surprise, the father cheerfully handed him twenty pounds.

Emboldened, the second said "Kin a' hae three hoondred poond, fer a tartan kilt?" and to their amazement, the father cheerfully handed him three hundred pounds.

The third said "Kin a' hae a thoosand poond?"
The father said "Only if ye gait tartan, laddie."
"Av gae'it already, father, Av got a tart'n trouble!!!!!"

yes i am in the opinion that modern skirts are the same as school skirts.

i found a side recently that showed how to wear BOTH types of traditional kilt, but damned if i remember where now.
