Zack and Miri Make a Censored

Years ago, when Kevin Smith and I were both guests at DragonCon, he and I had a brief conversation about porn. Now that his Zack and Miri Make a Porno movie hits theaters this Halloween, I wish I remembered any of the details of it. As I recall...

The 40 year old virgin and Knocked Up were funny, now they are just ruining it by making movies every couple months.
edit: Ok I now see that this is a kevin smith movie. I was just about to say, can you imagine if kevin smith kept making a new movie every year? well maybe so...

I didn't see Knocked Up, but I definitely enjoyed The 40 Year Old Virgin.
I'm always surprised that people who make movies do not make more movies, but anyone can bite off more than they can chew.

I kind of feel sorry for kevin smith. when he came out with Jersey Girl he made that statement about how no one wants to see a 40 year old dude with kids just remaking Porky's over and over again, and he's right.

Of movies I did not walk out during the middle of or turn off, Jersey Girl is on my list of least liked movies of all time. Given what a HUGE Kevin Smith fan I was before that movie came out, that was a shocker to me. I just kept watching, thinking this has to get better, it can't be going where it looks like it is.
I am 100% fine with films about grown-ups, but the values in that movie came across like an ignorant child inaccurately trying to parrot horrible things told to him by his elders, in the hopes of being accepted as deep and virtuous.
Re: Zack and Miri Make a Censored
Jersey Girl sucked.....period.
Re: Zack and Miri Make a Censored
I thought it was palatable, but maybe that's because I had such low expectations going in. anyway, you can see my point.

I can't believe you guys even bothered to watch Jersey Girl.

I loved Kevin Smith. A couple of the actors were cool. Sure, it was reviewed as being pretty much the worst movie ever, but I figured, if I went in with really low expectations, I could be a little entertained. I mean, I enjoyed Mallrats. Mallrats is not the kind of deep top 10 fare that Clerks or Chasing Amy or even Dogma is, but it was entertaining and had decent values. That was all I hoped for from Jersey Girl. If that Spotless Mind stuff existed, I would totally use it to remove Jersey Girl from my brain.

I know what you mean. I've done stuff like that as well. I'm a huge Irvine Welsh fan and I'd heard negative reviews of one of his more recent books, If You Liked School You'll Love Work, but I figured, it's Irvine Welsh, I have to read it. And it SUCKED. Huge. Sooo disappointing:(

and in a few hours you can hold a book with both hands!
enjoy the cast removal today!

I'm actually kind of looking forward to seeing "Zack and Miri". I need to go back and watch Clerks again now.

Clerks is always worth re-watching. I can't tell whether I would be annoyed by Zack and Miri or totally enjoy it. A bunch of the surrounding fuss is annoying, but the movie might be fine.
Re: Zack and Miri Make a Censored
I saw ZAMMAP last night. The plot has some thin spots, but I laughed a LOT. And yes, Meyes does do full-frontal. :D

Unfortunately, a lot of people start getting a little older and desperately want to be accepted by society at large, and in the process of seeking that validation, often end up paring away a lot of what made them interesting, replacing it with platitudes and whatever they feel is expected of them.
Life doesn't have an agenda, though, and if you take the path of least resistance, worrying about the judgments of others regarding the things you enjoy, you'll only smother your creativity and joy of life. As director Norman Macera once said to me, "Don't ever grow up."
I sincerely do not plan on it.

Oh, like advocating self-censoring because some "grown-up" might get embarrassed when their child asks them what a word means?
As fracking hilarious as I found The Hoohah Monologues, at first, the fact of the matter is, it's censorship and it doesn't matter if the word is "vagina" or "porno", having the right to say something is the freedom to say it publicly, without censorship. Private institutions may have the right to refuse publication or advertising of said speech, but as the mighty Zappa once said, "it's just words, get over it." When one has the right to say something, one has every damned right to say it as publicly as one can -- the only exception is, say, the old adage of yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre, id est, causing undue panic or other unnecessary physical harm amongst others. Nobody is any more than embarrassed or offended by words like "porno" and "vagina". Unless, of course, you advocate some form of The Miller Test to "protect" everybody who might actually have to help their kids grow up (and yes, growing up includes being able to discuss sex without anything less than frankness).
Larry Flynt is everything that's right with the First Ammendment -- yes, even when he's wrong.
Re: Zack and Miri Make a Censored
I agree, i'm going to erect a billboard that simply says "fuck everyone, no exceptions."
