WAHOO!! Total Bigshot Director Called ME!!!

This is SO great! This total bigshot director, my FAVE director called me PERSONALLY on the phone and asked me to send him a script!! He is also an actor and I want him to direct and play a role in the film. This guy has totally huge agents in LA and London, but he called me personally!!! I was really good on the phone, and funny too!!


I am SO excited!! I think this director would really do the best job!! And he had a big hit film with one of my female stars that requested the script, as well as the film company president that requested it, so it is all the people that he has worked with and had success with!!!

I am SO HAPPY!!!! He was really nice too!! I get an A+!!!!!!!!

Lunch, by the way, is "out" in 06 according to the reprobates I hang with.. Brunch is the New Lunch:-

1) you can't be late.. brunch is from 9 to noon baby.
2) less time for the valet to shoot up before parking your limo
3) you get to have wine with breakfast and not appear on Letterman

Oh, and they always use the word "genre" and talk about "getting on board with the project"...

I have found that the smaller not famous people ask the most questions, but there is a lot of attitude and you will encounter attitude sooner or later from someone.

Attitude is defense for a lot of the middle-rankers. People see the 'big names' throwing their weight about and assume a bit of the same will make them look important too. As with all constructs, push back a little and it all gives way.

If there is a secret in this game, it's being yourself. It's secondary if that means you're nice or not, so long as folks can rely on you being the same. People who keep reinventing themselves confuse the roadkill-level IQs of the Boys on the Board, so get bypassed. Standing your ground when there's a valid issue is just as important as not creating them to get 10 more seconds in the limelight.

Oh, and as to 'genre'.. carry a notepad. When an inflated ego with Twinkies for brains says the word (usually followed by "..my dear...") just look like you're taking notes and say, politely..

"jon..ra... okay.. er - can you spell that for me?"

And you are right about being yourself. I have noticed that when I am sincere and approach people on a personal level, it kind of hits them that someone is just doing this because they REALLY believe in their script...

It also helps that I learn as much as I can about the director/actor so that when I talk to them I know their history and their work, even where they were born, so they are impressed!

Also being polite and having basic common sense seems to work. And talking in sound bites!!! Say it quick, say it fast!

But polite is working because no one does it anymore, so they think I am very posh!!!

Oh, also I have learned, agents never give scripts to their clients! First you have to get the script to the agent, then you have to somehow contact the actor, or director personally, which is tricky. And THEN after you contact them, you tell them that their agent has the script. But with my years of shopping projects, I have figured out ways to get to people... Sort of detective work.

So far, most people have been pretty nice, which is kind of the biggest shock of all!

Anyway, you have to tell me what you do...

I hope you get rich and famous so you can fly all your internet friends to NYC for a big party.
